I want a New Bandsaw

For $399 must be a nice fence!

I think was it was worth the price. Looks like it's $295 for a couple more days, that's even better.  [big grin]

I just upgraded my 18 inch Jet band saw with the driftmaster fence.  I think it's the best thing since sliced bread.  I would add one to any band saw that I purchase in the future.  Very robust and well made.  I also purchased Laguna's carbide blade and it cuts like butter with minimal effort pushing the wood through.

So far everything Laguna has told me was accurate info and their customer service has been very good.  The ceramic guides I ordered were the wrong ones when they arrived.  They were in a mislabeled bag.  I called customer service and they sent the new ones out that day.  They also made me a great deal when I ordered and saved me $240.00 on the order.

Despite some complaints that I have read online, My experience with Laguna products and service so far have been top notch!  I havent tried the ceramic guides yet, but hopefully they will be an improvement over my roller bearing guides.  I'll be cutting some figured cherry (10 inch wide rough cerry) in a few weeks to make a book matched veneer so we'll see then how the whole set up works.

I purchased and used the Laguna blade, it;s sitting on the floor behind my slider. I just do not like it. It is not as sharp as a brand new NON carbide blade. The non carbide blades wear faster, but the cut I get is much faster and just as smooth. I have to buy 4 or 5 of the blades before a carbide one would wear out, which is about the same money vs time for the Laguna.

I just love a brand new regular band saw blade over a carbide band saw blade. Possibly it's because I am re-sawing 90% of the time, but I have never needed the function of that drift master fence. I might consider the fence for one for my little band saws though. I just don not get drift with my Grizzly at all.

I encourage all to watch the youtube video someone posted on page one.  THere's a lot more to the Driftmaster than merely accounting for drift.

Do you mean page one of this thread?  I don't see it.

I agree that the DriftMaster is more than just quick adjusting for drift.  It isn't like you do it all the time.  What I like most about the fence is the handle for adjusting the fence with the threaded rod.  One turn is a 1/16" so it makes it much easier to get consistent cuts on the off-cut side of the blade keeping a nice smooth surface against the fence.  Some of those after-market micro-adjusters might work just as well (those made for table saws n such), but it is nice that it's part of the fence.

Looks like I'm gonna get an awesome deal on a Felder  [smile] [big grin] demo

Without pics, it isn't going to happen.

No, we don't need to see pictures of a Felder yet.  Right now, we want to see pictures of the cash!   [blink]

Im getting a loan  [scared]

Oh, well that explains the scared face.  But, doesn't that take most, if not all, of the awesomeness out of the deal.

No, I didn't just type awesomeness did I?  Now I'll need to add a scared face too.  [scared]

maybe I should just sell off my kapex to fund the deal. What? NO WAY. [scared] [tongue] I should be working right now. I got tired last night at about eleven and screwed up big time. Wasted 2 hrs and and $70 in wood. So I have an off night. time to do the dishes and get to bed. 16hrs tomorrow.

John,
I watched the driftmaster vid and it does look fantastic. I'll have to make due with the 540's stock fence for a while though.

I looked at the Driftmaster & it seems well built and I like the ability to increment the fence over given amounts when resawing.  I was all set to order one when they ran the special then I got looking at my current saw fence -- I can easily add that same ability with a piece of threaded rod & a couple of machined parts.

Ron, with your skills, anything like this is easy. For me, it's easier just to put one on my credit card.  [big grin]

I'd like to see some photos when you're done.
