I like the fastcap system for the same money better (imperial+crown stops) and it is expandable.

Did you buy the fastcap system?  I'm thinking about getting the Best Fence Pro 3 for the Kapex.  I'd like to hear some more of what you think about the fastcap if you have one.

Ditto for me!  I'd love some more info on the FastCap system.  I was looking at the Pro 2...
Seems like it gives a similar setup to the UG+Wings, but you get wider wings and better stops.

Also - A lot of people comment on how they love the wings, but haven't heard comments on the fastcap cart itself.  Is it worth it to buy the whole pro package, or just but a dewalt or a bosch stand and buy the FastCap wings.

Just FYI - I'm looking for a stand that will be mainly stationary in my shop.  I'll move it once in a while but not very often

I'm looking at the Pro3 instead of the Pro2 because of the extra wing, cut list stand, accessory bag and the upper hand as well as the other items.  Don't have to use the extra wing but it'll be nice to have when I need it.  Those items are well worth the extra $200, at least for me.

UG cart and wings with a dedicated CT-midi. Only have a small space in a three car garage. So i need something that can fold up and take a little space a possible.

The Best Fence Pro system can stand on it's end which makes it take up about the same floor space as the UG cart.

One of the things that's making me lean towards the Pro3 over the UG is it's more sturdy.  It has a wider footprint with only 4 points that touch the ground.  Those 4 legs are adjustable.  This will make a big difference when using the Kapex on an uneven surface like a lawn.  The UG has a smaller footprint with parallel bars that are so close to the ground that they could be a problem when using the Kapex on an uneven surface.  There are other reasons.

Not yet

I really want to. I've got a couple of dewalt stands so I've been running it on them. I plan on buyin the wings kit to attach to my dewalt stand. The kapex is so light it doesn't merit a stand with wheels and the hassle it is to maneuver those up and down stairs and through the mud and muck of a jobsite. I had one of the old school beastly rigid miter stands with the huge wheels and even that one I hated pulling up stairs and it was really heavy for loading in a truck. I swapped my bosch gravity rise ts stand and that rigid miter saw stand for a dewalt miter saw stand and a rosseau ts stand with a dewalt 745

I just bought my third Keter table in anticipation of using it with my upcoming Kapex due in about 10 days.

The first one (Adjustable legs) has my Laguna Revo Mini lathe attached and it is PERFECT!
The second is my "throw in the SUV for whatever" table
Now the third will be for the Kapex. I bought the non-adjustable 1000Lbs capacity one, and if it's too high once I put the Kapex on it, I'll purchase another adjustable leg version.

I love these Keter's !!! [big grin]

Thanks Peter! That video is really helpful!

Also - Greg, you are totally right.  I didn't realize how much more stuff you got for the $200!  I was planning on buying a 3rd Hand anyway. So now, it's just good value!

I guess the main question now -- is there any reason someone prefers the UG Cart + Wings over the FastCap system?

I guess the main question now -- is there any reason someone prefers the UG Cart + Wings over the FastCap system?

The reasons that I was considering the Festool option is because of it's weight.  Easier to move around in places where you can't roll it or are very tight.  Most of what I would use it for would be trim and 2x4s so the thin wings wouldn't be a factor most of the time.  It's overall minimum length when setup with wings on both sides is about 1.5ft shorter then the Pro3 (with 1 wing on each side) which can make all the difference in a small room (11' vs 12.5").  I love Festool products :)

However, there were reasons for deciding against it.  Mainly because it looks like it will have stability problems on uneven surfaces.  It has to be lifted into the van unlike the Pro3 which can have one end placed into the van and then lift the other end while sliding it in.  Don't have to pick up the whole weight at one time.  That can make a difference after a long hard day, plus I'm getting older.  Sometimes I do have to cut long boards up to 2x12s which would be very challenging with the Festool wings.  Metric vs Metric/Imperial tape.  No workarounds needed to cut crown.  I really like the cut list stand for the Pro3.  The Pro3 holds everything needed to use it and holds it securely.  The UG cart and wings are separate pieces that can be pulled together but the wings aren't secured to the UG cart.  This means that pulling it over rough terrain could cause the wings to fall off of the cart.  The Pro3 just seems more solid and seems like it will stand up to more abuse over time.  Let's face it, our equipment gets abused at times out in the field.

The drawback to getting the Pro3 is that I have to buy it without being able to look at it.  As of right now I'm planning to buy one in the next 45 days or so.  After I get one and have a chance to use it I'll give my opinion about it.

This was my thought process.  Both systems look very good.  One looks to fit my situation a little better then the other.

Thanks Greg!  That's incredibly helpful. I'm leaning towards the Pro 3 now mainly because I don't need the weight reduction as I won't be moving it around too much.  So do you think Fastcap will give us 10% off since February is Kapex month???  [big grin]

Didn't think about that, wouldn't that be nice!

If they don't, the Pro3 is actually more expensive than the UG+wings... hard to imagine someone pricing higher than Festool (well, except another German company) :D

haha... my sentiments exactly!  I think you get more with the FastCap but it's still a lot of dough.
I blame Greg though.  Before he started talking, I was ONLY going to spend $600 on a miter saw stand!!!

There's a lot more to the Pro3 then the UG and wings.  The Pro3 has beefy wings that can be made as long as you need them to be.  The Festool wings aren't even 5' whereas the Pro3 is 75" from the blade to the end of the wing on one side and 139" on the other side if you need to setup the 2nd wing.  The Pro3 can be setup and leveled in rough terrain.  The Pro3 is cheaper except for a 28 day window.

Now if you don't need the capacity to handle larger and longer boards then the UG and wings is a very nice setup.  I'd probably get it over the fastcap if all I did was trim and the occasional wider board that was 6' or shorter.  In my search these were the only 2 products that I found that has continuous support for varying lengths of board.

One thing I'm looking forward to is being able to go to the saw, set the stop to the length I need in inches (not mm), and then make the cut knowing that it's accurate (compared to my previous setup).  There will be a lot less measuring and then lining up the cut before making the cut. It's going to save a lot of time.

Please don't misunderstand me, I love my thousands of $$ of Festool tools.  It's just that after much debate, I find the UG cart and wings to be lacking and the Fastcap system seems to be much better for my situation.  Believe me, the Festool solution was my first choice until I found the Pro3 and even then I chose the Pro3 after much debate.

# 2

I have a Dewalt sliding compound on a Dewalt stand and when I got the Kapex it was with the UG stand so it would be easier to move and set up.  Just got it tonight and won't be using it for another week.  Will at some point have it in woodshop and it will stay there most of the time so making a stand at some point might happen.

Look what I just found!

Fastcap is making a non-Pro version of their Best Fence system.  The only difference is how you adjust the fence.  Everything else is the same but it costs $200 less!

Yeah, I saw the same video.  I guess it's not on their website yet, though.  I think those precision adapters are pretty great, but unless you're moving around in a shop a ton, probably not 100% necessary.

Greg - do you know if you have to buy the Kapex adapters separately?  when you configure the product it asks what kind of saw and you can choose "Kapex (Kapex Adapters)" or "Kapex (Universal Adapters)" but i didn't see them included on the list.  if you select kapex adapters do you get them included or do you have to spend an extra $50 on them?

When I choose the Kapex adapters option and add the system to my cart the price doesn't change so I assume that it isn't an additional cost.  I'm fairly certain that I'm going to use the $200 savings to get the non-pro4 which will be the same price as the Pro3.  Didn't want to spend $999 but I was going to spend $799 anyways.  The Pro adjustments look really nice but I don't think it's going to be too much of a pain to make the manual adjustments.

I also saw in another video that they have or had an attachment to make the back of the fence higher for support when cutting crown.

Well,  I finally picked up my Kapex to go along with Sawhelper fences.  The details are a couple posts below. (For some reason, it didn't show up here)

The saw helper and the Best Fence look an awful lot alike.  That fence looks very nice and the adapter looks to be a great fit.  I was never able to get a saw helper fence so I'm glad that Fastcap has stepped in and filled a void.

I've talked up the Best Fence here but does anyone know of another alternative to the Kapex wings or the Best Fence that's still available today?  I know I could make one myself but I need to have portability.

Yes, there are a lot of similarities.  I got my Sawhelper about 15 yrs ago and it has been great.  I really like having the full table (8' left and 4.5' right)rather than just intermediate supports which many fence systems have.  That's why I was so glad to find the Kapex adapter brackets made by Multiblades.  Had that not worked, I would've forked over the $400 for the Fastcap Bestfence 'cuz it is so similar to the Sawhelper.  Can't wait to start really using the Kapex on the kitchen I have coming up soon.  Yahoo!

Depending on the job I use different stands. Paulk version, multiblades with plywood ext. and crown stops with commerical extrusions
