Inset Door/drawer scribe

Hello, this is my first post on the new site,
I wanted to illustrate an area where Festool has saved me quite a bit of time...

I just finished building my kitchen cabinets with full inset doors and drawers.  The difficulty is achieving a consistent reveal all the way around the opening.  In years past I would cut the door/drawer tight for the opening and sneak up on the final dimension with the jointer and a block plane.

For this project I left the door/drawer oversized and placed the face frame on top and clamped into position after carefully centering the door in the opening.  I then took my PaperMate Scribe:

and scribed a perfect 2 mm line....

all the way around the opening.  Now it simply a matter of removing the face frame and cutting to the line with the TS55 and guide rail.  Fit is perfect right out of the box no refitting required!

The cabinets are poplar and birch plywood and look like this after being finished with pigmented conversion varnish:

I really like your idea for scribing inset doors/draws.  They are a PITA to get right.

Can you give me some info on what brand of pigmented conversion varnish you used and how you applied it (HVLP, brush etc...).

I actually sent the cabinets out to a professional shop to have them painted.  They painted the face frames, crown, door and drawer fronts.  They did a beautiful job.  When all the parts were done they gave me about a half gallon of the leftovers and I painted the exposed ends of the cabinet sides with my Apollo 800 HVLP.  The material needs to be thinned by 15% and you have to add the catalyst.  I'll have to check the brand when I get home tonight.
