YEAH very apparent  [sad] maybe next time you do a competition like this the rules could be changed to one entry per person to make it fairer. I know your idea was to get more reviews but still  :

I'm sure Shane thought of that and the logical reason why I would disagree with a cap is that worry that only a few people enter. You can imagine how bad it would be if only 7 people entered and they only 7 reviews. This way a few people can enter and you can still get a large amount of reviews. Having said that I think a cap of about 3 or 4 would be fair.

It has to be said though Greg and Junkie really did put in the effort, I mean 7 and 6 reviews. Wow, you guys deserve it. Congrats to both of you and thank you Shane for putting together this great competition and I hope there are more in the future.

Now any chance we could win a Kapex? As I've said before I would name my child "Festool" to win that.  [big grin]

I like the idea of multiple entries.  In this case we had 13 participants that would have meant only 13 reviews instead of 29.  I'm in favor of rules that generate more content on the forum, multiple entries allows that to happen. [2cents]

Multie entries means more reviews which is good for the rest of us lazy #@%* it does however create a problem in that someone who only has the resources to only enter once would stand little chance of winning. that said isn't it the taking part that counts......... jumpers for goal posts....hm mm

If Shane does another review competition (I hope he does its been fun)perhaps the prizes could be of lesser monitory value and the  prizes spread a little further,that way people who only enter once or twice stand a better chance of winning something cos it nice to win something......even if its only a knitted toilet roll cover [big grin]

Thanks for the reviews! There were some very useful ones, and a couple of funny ones as well.
I'm a bit ashamed as I had planned to enter a review of the DD-DC drywall chuck, but as I found out that there was already a great review of that, I decided not to bother.
I'll add my personal experiences to that review whenever I get around to sum it up nicely.

What I particularly liked about this contest was the international character. I guess that wasn't as easily achieved as some of us may think.

Maybe the next contest can have nothing to do with reviews. It is apparent reviews take a certain talent that many might not have here in this forum. Most forum members here are woodworkers, not writers or blogger's and some here can barley turn on a computer let alone type or figure out picture placement(other than just posting a pic), etc.

Maybe one contest idea could be the most cool(nontraditional) use of a Festool, etc. I think someone could enter that with two sentences and some pics without worrying about a nice writing format, etc.

I am sure many forum members are embarrassed to even try to enter when they see reviews of the likes of Brice and some of the winners.

Yes... and Yes.  

With the exception of my last entry, which was a last hurrah, 20 minutes before the deadline, over-tired effort to be entertaining in reviewing a fairly one-dimensional product (the abrasive Systainer), I tried to be as informative as possible in the time/space, and to try to bring at least one insightful or new-useful thing to the understanding of the tool.  So, yes.  I was absolutely hoping to add something to FOG and the Festool store of knowledge.  Out of 7 efforts, I hope I succeeded in something new or profound (to someone) at least once.

There is a 10 minute cap on the video reviews (YouTube's limit).  Not enough to be 1000% comprehensive, but there's a lot of ground that can be covered, and I tried.
For the written reviews, there's a 20 picture max (I hit it on the RO review), and really who wants to read a novel-length review?  Lengthier write-ups, for example Jerry Work's excellent documents, are more methods-of-work tutorials than a review / overview.

As it is, I put about an hour each into these.  Between planning, photos, Photoshop time, writing, editing, and what-not the written reviews take a long time.

Believe me, those one-take videos are not a 5-9 minute affair.  I'm glad folks thought they were pretty good, but what you can't see is that I have an outlined script sitting off the side of points to cover, specs, etc.  Setup, trial runs, etc all take time.

Yes, I was also hoping to bolster my chances to win, by entering both categories and doing many.  The rules of the contest clearly state that multiple entries were allowed (and encouraged).  After all, it was a contest, not a charity drive.  

Ironically, that silly Sys STF D 150 review has generated the most thread discussion about that and related products.  Anyway, moot as I didn't win in the written category ('grats GPowers!) and I don't even think it was counted.

The entry's were not judged on merit but drawn at random so even  a terrible review with just a few lines and a picture would have stood the same chance of winning. which shoots a big hole in you post.dam should have thought of that earlier [wink]

Yeah but that is not the point at all, everyone including me understood that it was a drawing.  I say that people are not going to post if they feel their work is not up to snuff. Just like most do not post their projects for the same reason, they feel they are just to simplistic and not good enough to be seen here. When in fact the most simplistic things sometimes are the things that turn on a light bulb for someone.

I wonder how many did not consider this contest because they felt they just would post crap, did not know how to make videos, did not feel their grammar is good enough, etc.

I was just proposing an idea for another contest that possibly more people might try to enter.

it would be very interesting to know why there were so few entries, maybe a poll would be a good idea to see if it could be made more appealing or accessable.
my reasons for not entering
1 I have a ro150 cant use two and no I could not be bothered to sell it I would rather it went to someone that needed one.
2 do not know how to upload pictures or video ( bit lame as I'm sure I could work it out)
3 just taken on a new shop and am not set up to demo anything at the mo,
4 do not have a huge collection of festool no jigsaw no drills no kapex
5 would not want to review anything that had been reviewed for the competition already
