Hello FOG,

Thank you all for your great contributions to my Festool dominated shop!! I am a long time reader of the forum (this one and during the yahoo days).

I have a decent sized one car garage shop that began as an area for me to build custom computer and server cases (mostly acrylics and aluminum). I got started with Festool probably about 4 years ago now purely by accident. At the time, I didn't want to take up space with a table saw, so I searched for an alternative.

I found what seemed to be a great alternative to a table saw and purchased it with glee and great anticipation. That great alternative was the Eureka zone circular saw system  :o.

A few months after using the Eureka system, I happened to come across a forum discussion about this great other system. Actually, the forum discussion wasn't a discussion at all. It was an all out fight between Eureka loyalists and Festool loyalists...what passion there was!!!

Anyway, I began to research Festool and found a new partner for life. I was so impressed with the content of my research that I begged borrowed and sold everything that I had to purchase a whole boat load of Festool stuff....with not even a demo nor real-life glance of an actual Festool tool. (Actually, I didn't beg, borrow or sell anything....

Hello yourself Rey!

It looks like I will be the first FOG member to respond.  I look forward to hearing more from you.

Hey Rey - welcome! We're looking forward to your contributions. It's nice to hear that you've been pleased with your Festools - bought sight unseen! That's quite a leap of faith (and I'd guess we've all done it...)

Your avatar looks like either a cityscape at night, or a large pile of Systainers curiously lit in a dark room...

Nice to know that something poitive came out of all those food fights you endured. That must have taken some patience on your part as there was usually a lot of BS to wade through. I am glad that particularly ugly part of woodworking internet history has mostly run its course.

Welcome aboard.

Rey,
Welcome to Festool and to the FOG.

I like your way of thinking, the MFT is the heart of the whole system. Learn it well and the rest makes even more sense.

That was very zen, Steve. You could have put "grasshopper" in there, just to top it off:

"Learn it well, Grasshopper, and the rest makes even more sense."

Then whack him on the head, or something.

Thanks...I've been reading all of your post for such a long time now that it feels like I already know you all...like old buddies.

Poto, the avatar is a night view of the great city of Pittsburgh, PA....you know, home of the Steelers, Penguins and the perennial losers, aka Pirates.

Greg, those E vs F fights were legendary!! Believe it or not, I still have my E rails and sometimes use them as a straight edge.

Qwas, I sure would be lost without those MFTs of mine. My wife calls them my swiss cheese tables. Between the MFTs and the peg board covered walls in my shop she's convinced that I have some twisted fascination with holes.

You're a boy. Of course you have a fascination with holes!  :D

You should go look up Brice - he's in Pittsburgh too. Some of my best friends from grad school moved there - they have a cool company that makes robots. Don't think they have Festools, though.

Welcome Rey,

Dang talk about a long time lurker joining up...

Hey Matthew, this here is a Safety Glasses candidate if I ever saw one.

You know you are a Festool Fanatic when the pegboard on the wall has 20 mm holes!  ;D ;D ;D

... On 96 mm centers.

Welcome, Rey.  I'm originally from not too far from Pittsburgh.  The Pirates should never have left Forbes field.  I still talk about that place and Roberto Clemente and others with my son, and wish I could take him to a game there.  Did any of your Festools come in a poke?

Yeah, Brice and I have probably crossed some of the same ground. His profile pic looks to be from a place called Mt. Washington. I've been there many times, but never with any systainers. It's a great place to see breathtaking views of the city...to me though, regardless of where you go, if you have your systainers filled with you favorite goodies, you become the breathtaking view  :D

Good to see a long time lurker start putting fingers to the key board, welcome Rey. Yeah, the picture is from Mt. Washington, great views of downtown Pittsburgh.

Thanks Brice. Your review and demonstration of the MFS was the single biggest factor for me when I decided to get them. Life is so much better with them. Great stuff there man!!!

Your website though was the single biggest factor to cause me to make my web browser stop accepting sounds from visited web sites....The sound of that loud saw in the morning almost caused coffee to be deposited into the keyboard a few times  :) ;) :o

I book marked my site on the power tools page so I didn't have to hear that sound. But, everyone will be happy to know I removed the sound a week or two ago, I had been meaning to remove it for some time but never got around to it.  ;D

Glad you like the reviews.

Welcome Rey! How about some custom computer/server case pictures?

Yep, those were good times. I didn't get to see any of that though. I was born that year that he died.

Actually, I work a few blocks from the Forbes field home plate. I sometimes walk right over it during lunch, etc. Home plate is permanently attached to the ground.

Nope, none of the Festools came in a poke. Just boxes and systainers. I think the FS2700 is the longest package that I ever had delivered in life.

Haven't done one for a few years now. Though I plan to start a few HTPC (home theater PC ) projects shortly. But, I need to get a few other home projects done first. I will take a look for some pics and post if I still have any.
