Is a dedicated mini enough for the kapex??

I have a ct 26 with a homemade wcr1000 and boom arm that I use all around the shop. I'm just not sure of the power of a mini for the kapex. My goal would be to make a scms station using the mini and a dust deputy as a dedicated dust collection system!

all the new minis and midis have the same power as the bigger vacs. even the old ones should have enough power for the kapex

Remember the mini and midi have the same CFM as all the other vacs now. Sounds like that setup would be perfect with the DD.

The mini and a dust deputy would help deal with the smaller debris capacity of the mini.  The disadvantage of the dust deputy with the mini is that the minimal size of the unit is now defeated.  As others have said the suction is not an issue.

I agree with you.

I answered the way I did because it wasn't clear to me if this was a dedicated in shop situation or a dedicated mobile situation.  The OP's avatar shows a van with lettering.  I love my dust deputy when I work in the shop, but hate it in the field unless I am using a router.  Then the dust deputy - for me - overcomes the extra hassle.  Others will certainly have different situations and feelings.

I admit that I don't have a mini or a midi.  Although the motors provide the same suction along the entire range of dust extractors, there is a difference between the mini and midi and their larger siblings - the hoses exit out of the top on the two smaller versus the front on the larger. 

Another admission - as a moderator and a member trying to help others - I suck at the various hoses and fittings and reducers.  Just not very exciting to me.  I am pretty sure that the larger 36 mm house will fit but will come straight out.  I "think" that there is an adaptor that will turn it 90 degrees at the top of the collector, but if you are thinking about a dust deputy on top of the mini, I don't think that it will work.  I think that the DD hose is too large to make it thru the integrated hose garage.

I hope someone else will come to your assistance and mine.

I have a MIDI hooked up to my Kapex and a 36mm hose.

I believe the only difference between a Mini/Midi and a CT 22 and others, is that the two smaller vacs the hose comes out thru the top of the unit.  With a

bigger vac the hose will come out of the front.

A 36mm hose fits into the Mini and Midi with no problem.  Just keep in mind that the hose will attach to the top.

OK, and thanks! I think I just need a 90* elbow? Maybe not......that would slow air flow? I guess I can come straight up and connect to the DD! Do they sell just the short 32mm hose that comes with the boom arm? I have a 32mm x 3meter but way too long? Now I'm more confused????

The Mini will have a angle adapter on the 27mm hose that comes with the vac.

But that angle adapter (part number 456 806) does not work on a 36mm hose.  It is listed in the festool catalog with only the CT Midi and Midi highlighted.

I'm not a dealer, so I could be wrong with this information.

So when you buy a Mini you will need to buy a 36mm hose. 

Festool does not sell a 32mm hose.  And the shorted 36mm hose is 3.5 meters.  You can cut the hose to fit better for the application you are doing.

Just a thought.

If you are buying a CT Mini.  Use the 27mm hose that comes with it.  Run that hose to your Dust Deputy.  From the DD, run the 36mm hose to the Kapex.

Cutting the hoses to fit.  This way you can use the 27mm hose with the angle to run the hose out the front of the Mini.

This may help with some confusion??

No 90 degree for the D36 hose, it has to come straight out the top unless you make an adapter.

The short hose that comes with the boom arm is a D50.

You can get it in both versions.  I think the Bosch hose is 35mm for the large size.

I have a dedicated mini sitting under my Kapex  table with a 36mm hose, i made round holes through the bench top and inner shelf for the cables and hose to pass through.
This way the 36mm hose enters the mini straight from above without needing an elbow, and without coming out the front of the bench and sitting in the way.
DC is excellent with the 36mm, poor with the 27mm. I may grab a pic later.

edit image added. (as you can see right of the saw there is a 100mm DC tube that i connect to the mortiser with a 100mm flexible, or a 50mm to the kapex. But that didn't work on the kapex because it requires high pressure that only a vac can give)

had 27mm, then switched to 36mm -- big difference.  i also switched from mini to midi for bag capacity...  if you already have a mini, you can just get the midi bottom as a service part -- it's like $49us.
