Is it worth upgrading to ETS EC 125/3 EQ from ETS 125 EQ?

I think Dovetail is referring to the old ETS125 as being the dog.

To me, other than both being random orbit, they are very different sanders. I am not sure the EC can be considered the replacement for the ETS125. Which one serves better will depend on usage factors.

I know what Dovetail65 said, but was replying to the other poster's comment about EC sanders. I totally agree that the line is best served by retaining choices, and different orbits as well. I just used my new Pro5 yesterday finally for the main reason I bought one, as a In-Between Coats sander since it's not aggressive like an EC sander and only has a 2mm orbit. Was very smooth and easy to control, but with 500grit Granat mated to it, it should be....
I actually still wish for a 5mm orbit 125 sander in the EC flavor, without pad swapping...... I bought the EC125 /3 sander recently and like it as much as my EC 150/5 sander but am on the fence about selling off my old style 150/3 sander since it IS easier to feather something while sanding, for me, over the newer EC's.  [scratch chin]

well, he said ..........." - that Festool knows the EC is a bit of a dog,"

It's gotten kinda convoluted , so I'm not exactly sure who's saying what now.  [unsure]

No, Dovetail didn't say that.  I see that musserwood did. But I referenced Dovetail.

Yes, differing opinions and convolution.

      For this discussion-------------------

ETS125 should = old one.

EC should = new one.

Pro5 should = Pro5 and it's newly renamed just being released outside NA cousin ETS125.

Yes, I think I made the dog comment.    For us it wasn't just when the EC was sitting in off position, there was a subtle struggle while running to maintain an even plane with work surface.  When I tell you we sometimes have the ETS running 5-6 hours a day almost straight I'm not exaggerating, but, that also means subtle things become a bother.  If I picked it up to sand a few pieces in my home shop for 15 mins I might never notice it.  Besides that there was a grab (sticky) feel to machine.  Similar to how a Rotex feels when you are in the aggressive mode.  This is probably a good thing as it means the machine is taking off materials fast, but again, fighting with the machine for 5-6 hours can wear you out.  If the ETS is inferior in how aggressive it sands, for our purposes that is fine.    UPDATE of sorts - My office manager returned the EC.  Woodcraft took back, although insisted we were returning it because the the $375? price tag and not because of how we felt it operated.  I received an Pro-5 via eBay - I paid the list price of a ETS 125 - $195? but received a $50 coupon.  Someone still made $90 reselling it to me, but that's capitalism so no complaints on my end.  It looks like they made a few improvements to the machine - The on/off switch is slightly larger which is good.  Also they made the handle slightly larger, I'm assuming to relocate the venting from the top where it was to underneath.  This always seemed a real stupid place to put a vent -where it would be covered with a hand.    If the Pro-5 is half as durable as my old ETS125 I'll be thrilled.  Now I can replace the cord attachment on old machine.  The case that came with the Pro-5 is super cool looking.  Suggestion - change over all the cases to that color scheme.    All is right with the world now, and in the end I spent less money.  Will be sure to buy one or two of the ETS when it comes out this summer or fall
