Is my kapex bad?

Hey guys

Been reading the kapex threads for a few months.  Got mine some time back in the summer and it has sat since then unused (yeah, i know).  Seriously, I made a little dust goofin' off and ever since it's been sitting.

My miter table seems to move very stiffly...no scratching or scrapping noises (as of yet), but you CANNOT set the miter gauge very accurately with one hand, especially if you're just trying to move it a degree or two, or god forbid a half degree.

I've got a new spring plate coming and wondering if the consensus of the people who have swapped them out is that it fixed the problem.

...or, is the stiff movement something that won't be fixed by the new spring plate and that's just the way the  saw will be....I hope not, not for the $$  >:(  >:(

Thanks

Jay

p.s. please feel free to move this to problems thread if this is in fact a problem...thanks.

Replys on this forum - quoting Festool advice - suggest loosening the pivot nut about 1/8 turn to allow the miter adjustment to move more freely. HTH.

The miter table was designed to be stiff to prevent movement if you made a cut without locking it down.

Like Joe mentioned, if you find this bothersome loosen off the pivot nut just a little.

Thanks guys, appreciate the responses.  I'll try the pivot nut adjustment as well (first).  If that does the trick I'll save the spring plate for the dreaded scraping/scratching if it occurs.

Should I expect to be able to accurately set the miter with one hand or is that simply out of the question?  Don't get me wrong, I can turn the miter with one hand, just not very accurately.

Jay

P.S. I have a dewalt and hitcachi, so that's what I've been comparing it to, at least the ease (or lack of) adjusting the miter angle.

follow up:

I contacted my rep (http://www.sdcsalesandconsulting.com/sdc_contact.html) and within hours I received a call from Dan with Festool.  I will have my new plate today with an assurance from Dan if that doesn't solve my issue, they will take whatever steps are necessary to make me happy.

Great service.  :)

Thanks again for the replies guys.

hey jay,

you must be in NC  or SC  dan is a great guy, let him know that Kreg said so..  but they will take care of it.  if that does not work they will get you a new saw.  as they did in my case 5 times  !!!! lol but  SOL  (said out loud)

Actually Kreg, I'm about 40 miles north of Atlanta...so Dan must cover a lot of ground.  But you're correct, very helpful and I loved the attitude of "we'll do whatever to make it right", that's the way to do business.

So, did I read that you're going to wait for the kapex II? or did you finally get a keeper?
