Is there a Festool Tool or accessory that you regret purchasing.

+1 on the Carvex accessory kit.

And the guide rail deflector.

Accessories-Ct wing, works ok thought I would use it more
-Kapex crown stops, why did I buy them I cut my crown flat?
-centrotec extension bit, annoying to use bit slips all the time
                -centrotec locking bit holder terrible
-this is probably all my fault as I live in Canada where we use #2
Robertson and #10 torx which festool does not make?
                Thank You atlas, snappy etc.
Tools- Ro 90 I found it difficult to hold and keep flat but probably works great for some people
-I returned hkc55 for the corded model, I found it underpowered for my uses, I wanted to love it but unless you are cutting thin material and don't mind splintering get the hk55 its great, happy for Festools 30 day return policy

That's funny because I bought the HK55, found it underpowered, & returned it for the HKC (I think the HKC is similarly underpowered but at least it's cordless). Couldn't be happier with the HKC.

My biggest Festool purchase regret though is the HL 850 planer with the accessory heads.

- Surfix Kit - I think I've used 1 item of it ever, not sure if any of the liquids are still usable after years in the cupboard
- Carvex PS400 - worst piece of crap ever and the PS420 isn't much better, but atleast it stays mostly square (but still burns blades)
- The TI-15 impact driver - stupid extension construction and underpowered for an impact. After the introduction of the DRC 18/4 Set its totally useless
- Shinex RAP-150 Set - I've polished the cars twice in the last three years I've had the Shinex... Got it cheap, but still an awfully large box (Maxi Systainer) taking up space for being used for 2 days in three years... Could have taken both cars to the clearners for the 5 years for the price of this thing.

The first one (a Domino) which is a great tool, but it started a trend that now includes a couple of sanders, a drill, a couple of routers, a table, accessories, a vacuum, a table - you've been there...  First the heel, then the toe, then there you go, dancing down the Festool road.

Ditto.  Snappy to the rescue.

The parallel guides.  I really gave them a chance but in the end I couldn't take it anymore.  They are heavy and the yoke from the extensions for cutting narrow stock gets in the way.  Then I resorted to using a ruler with a ruler stop while abutting it the cut's waste side to get my narrow cuts.  And I just bought the Precision Parallel Guides, have yet to try them and I'm hopeful they will be what I'm looking for.

I'm least happy with my jigsaw. Not the carvex but the one before (can't remember the name right now!). It's just impossible to see where I'm cutting with the dust shroud on. I can't see the blade.

the guide rail accessory kit... i've had it for 5-6 years, and i have yet to use it

I am curious about the slipping on the Centrotec extension. Are you talking about the 492540 6" bit holder? I have several of those and have used them when needed. I haven't noticed any slipping but maybe I just missed it. What exactly is slipping?

The locking holder .... I have one but never really used it since I like the magnetic one better.

Carvex 400 never made it to the US except for a few test it out tools.

It is interesting to see what items people find useful and others have no use for.

No rAgrets.

I'm always looking for sales or used items, so I hardly buy anything for the full retail price. If something doesn't work out I sell it again for what I paid for it or more.

As a new to Festool owner, this thread has helped me tremendously. I've been keeping my eye out for a Carvex, but honestly I have a Bosch that works just fine. It is purely for want of another Festool product that fits nicely in it's own systainer. thanks for helping me get over that hump :)

WRT slipping, my experience was that 1/4" ball detent straight bits wobbled so badly that they slipped in the slot.  I got the Snappy Centrotec to 1/4" ball detent adaptor and use now anytime I'm using a 1/4" ball detent bit.  Wish Festool made a 1/4" ball detent chuck to compliment the Centrotec chuck.

WRT to usefulness, everyone has their own pattern of work - it is interesting to see how other people accomplish the same tasks different ways, and how differences in work patterns make for differences in the usefulness and value of different tools.  That's one of things that keeps me coming back to FOG.  The great serendipity moments for me are when someone describes a technique for doing a job that I would never do, but I am then able to apply their technique to a problem that I need to solve.

Not so much a regret... but I wish I had known a bit more about the many, many ways i could use the dog holes on the MFT early on.  If I had, I wouldn't have bought the kit, I would have just bought the MFT/3 Basic as I really don't use anything but the table and my add on accessories.

I also wish in the US, we could buy just the CMS-VL without the fence as I KNEW what I was going to do with that project!

On another note, I have always been a fan of my Carvex 420... it has always treated me well.

cheers.  Bryan.

The hk55,  I thought it was going to be a great saw, but it's inability to cut 2x on a 45 degree bevel makes it useless as a construction saw.

[member=21412]bkharman[/member] can you say more about your MFT setup? I have a track saw but no table, i'm cutting on the floor for now. I've got a craigslist alert and I think I want the full table with angle guide and everything. Would love to learn more about how you've got things set up.

Also for some reference, i've got a small shop, so i'm trying to get as much mileage out of the track saw as I can. No room for a permanent chop saw, table saw, etc. I was thinking the full MFT would help replace a few other tools (even if it's not an ideal replacement).

Sure.  I use my MFT as support for the CMS-VL.  I use the router attachment, and other NAINA setups.  I also have an Incra fence on it to get accurate and repeatable routes/cuts/etc.  If you are just using the MFT as a cutting station, you will probably accomplish what you need.  If i treat mine as a cutting station, I personally have adopted using rail dogs or just lay the workpiece on the top and cut using two reference marks on the plywood or workpiece.  I have a TS unit, a chopsaw, a jigsaw  and a 55 to cut with so I have a few more options than you do.  If you are looking for a one stop shop, the cutting table (search this forum for ideas) might fit 99% of your needs.

PM or reply here if you need some more details and pics.

cheers.  Bryan.
