The mailman dropped off my Domino today around noon. Thanks Bob for such great service. I can't wait to get playing with it. I've got some things to take care of the rest of the afternoon, but I'm sure I'll be up half the night cutting all kinds of holes with the little bugger. I'm like a kid at Christmas that got a new bike but couldn't ride it because it was snowing outside. I hate having to work...

You can see who rates....

I ordered mine with all of the accessories last October even before there was a price set....

I followed up it Jan. both with an email & a phone call and was told "Got ya covered....."  "your on the 'top of the list'.........."

As of this post the Domino has not arrived......  although it is "scheduled" to be here today....

Frankly what SUCKS about this is I make my living with these tools.  I had a job this week for the Domino......  This job has now been pushed off indefinitely.......

Lou you only "decided" to order this on Monday......

I've supposedly "had one on order" for 6 months......  6 months.......!!!

Needless to say I am not very impressed right now with the service.

Jim, Who did preorder with, I made my preorder 2 weeks ago and mine showed up this last Monday. Did you follow up with whoever you ordered with?...

Ted I'm leaving the dealer's name out of it 'cause this is how he makes his living...

Of course the irony is that I make my living with these tools...

Well, I got to play with it for about 45 minutes. I probably cut around 100 mortises just fooling around with it. The speed of it is going to make a huge impact on my work. Just like everyone said, the tenons fit very snugly into the mortises.

I cut 28 mortises into my bench for dogs (credit goes to Lignum for the idea). That works awesome.

I did have some issues with it though. Just let me make it clear that it was more than likely user error as I need to get used to it yet. However, I cut several mortises into some MDF scrap to test the face alignment. I got results that were far less than I was hoping for. I'm going to fool around with it some more and I'm sure I'll get better results after I've adjusted to it.

I don't really care too much for the location of the vac hose though. My hand sort of gets pinched between the hose and the motor housing while plunging. Either I'll get used to holding it another way, or somehow get my hands to shrink. That's a very very minor issue though.

Other than that, I really like it. I already have a whole bunch of things that I figure I can use it for. I'm sure as time goes by I'll find a ton more too. The guy I sub a lot of trim work to is going to go nuts over this thing. He's too cheap to buy one, but I already know he's going to want to use mine. Ain't happening... I'll let him test drive it, but that's about it.

Jim,

I feel for ya. However, I possibly have a small advantage over you. Bob is only around 70-80 miles away from me. That's not much of a stretch for the USPS to cover. Being that he had actual stock on hand and I ordered it first thing Tuesday morning, it was no problem for it to arrive so quickly. Obviously, Bob put my order out for shipping right away on Tuesday, that's why I thanked him in my inital post. Its also why I always buy from him. It could be that whoever you bought yours from had to have it drop shipped from Festool. With all the demand for these things right now, I can easily see how that could end up delayed.

Of course, I'm just speculating and I could be way off. Who knows?

I think you did the right thing by not mentioning the dealer's name. Its very likely that its not his fault.

Hey Lou,
I know you were just 'fooling around' with the new toy, but this brings up an interesting question.  Would the dominoes work in MDF?

Jim,

I'm in the same boat as you.  Ordered in january and still waiting.  In the past I would place an order and get it within 3 days.  This time my order didn't get a UPS departure scan until monday @8pm.

Jesse,

Why not?  I am expecting that dominos will be a new and far superior way to join mdf and melamine (mdf- or even particle board-core) than any we are used to using.  Just got my domi and havent had a chance to try that out yet, but I expect it's going to work just fine.

I am pretty unhappy. I pre ordered mine from Bob Marino  in early March after ordering about $1,000.OO in MFS stuff and still have not received my Domino . I have a lot of Festool tools:  CS70 Saw, Basis system,Belt Sander and others that I bought in Europe. I bought duplicates of  a number of tools in 110 volt power and many others when I moved back to the states, to use on job sites direct from Festool and had great service. After talking with and ordering from a number of Festool dealers I think I will just order direct and pay the freight in the future.   Chad

Sure they will work in MDF. Sizng them could be an issue I suppose though. If you use too thick of a tenon, the MDF might want to separate. Using tenons that are 1/3 the thickness of the material would work without any problem at all.

Can I ask how you like your CS 70? I had a good look at a CS 50 at a local woodworking show in the UK and the dealer took quite a bit of time to demonstrate it for me. I loved it, especially the optional sliding table which was so smooth, and the way the extension tables could be easily removed so that the whole kit could fit into the back of a car, or carried up stairs. I was really impressed with the quality, but (as would be expected of something from the Festool stable) it was expensive.

For those not familiar with the Precisio CS 70 and its smaller sibling the CS 50, they are portable collapsible-leg variable-speed table saws where the saw can slide towards the user underneath the table. The saw can also be locked into position and used for ripping and crosscutting as normal. They are available in the European and Australian markets, but not in the US. Jim,

I thought a while before replying to your post on-line rather than email, but I figured it best to post here, primarily because I don't want the folks here to think it was any other dealer who's fault it was but mine  I hope all will not see this as an excuse - there isn't any, but rather, to better expain my shipping decisions.
Your Domino (along with many others) shipped out Saturday from my house/shop to the UPS store and UPS sent it sailing on Monday. I should have placed the orders in a strict, not general, order by date. If your Domino went out Friday, you would have gotten it Wednesday - 1 day earlier than the current delivery date. Nothing moves with UPS on Sat/Sun, unless it's shipped via air. Some of my orders were shipping USPS Priority Mail as I thought this would be a faster/better (although a way more expensive way to ship) until I was told immediately by friends who ship often, that they are not as reliable as UPS. I then decided to ship just about everything UPS. And they were correct - USPS "mixed up" a few orders - and they within 100 miles of me and took 3-4 days to finally arrive at the customer's house! UPS, I have learned the hard way, is a more reliable way to ship for most items than the USPS.
With the release of the Domino and the impending (APRIL 1) price increase, I knew the Bender warehouses would be (and were) swamped, so I decided it would be about as fast, if not faster, for all Domino orders (even to those customers on the west coast) to be shipped by me, (except those as part of the CT Package). With the sheer volume of orders, all Festool drop shipped orders were delayed a few days. Frustrating for everyone!
I understand your disappointment, frustration and possible anger. But, don't think for a second it was a question of "who rates", because that is simply not true. I value all my customers and try to give everyone the best service I can provide. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean mistakes can't and don't happen. Nobody likes when that happens; nobody. As I have previously posted, one mistake is one mistake too many - and I have made my share.
A few orders, like Chad Womak's did get "lost in the sauce", required some double checking  and I  shipped UPS 2nd Day. (Chad, delivery is for tomorrow). Apology Chad.
Again, please accept my apology for the inconvenience created by the delay.

Regards,

Bob

Being in the shipping and receiving business for the last 25 years UPS is by far the best for shipping across the US. Tracking is what I pay for and I expect to be able to see that item no matter where it is in the US any time during the day or night.

USPS is good for the price but in my days I have seen pkgs take extra time to get were they should. Some times items going to MA will get there before items make it to NV and I am in Southern CA. Like I have said before the USPS uses this word "priority" which means plane and simple first class, nothing special just first class. Tracking by the USPS is not their specialty since the carriers only post their scanners at centers at the end of the day when the items are picked up and delivered if they are Certified, Registered, Insured or Delivery Confirmation.

I have done my fare share of damage claims for both UPS and USPS. UPS is a piece of cake for claims as long as the pkg is marked damaged at time of delivery, residential is a different story. USPS you must first provide proof of dollar amount if you insured the package and it was lost, then it will take no less than 90 days to finish the process to get your money back.

I know right now with fuel surcharges at 3-4% UPS is running at $2.40 per lb on the average in the US for ground service and USPS is running $1.25 per lb at parcel rate. Both companies try their best at making delivery in state the next day, if you ship inside the state to inside the state delivery point that package will arrive the very next day. Never pay for next day delivery in the same state its a waste of money. UPS and USPS are fighting to keep this going to get your business. Just thought I would add my .02 cents to shipping problems...

It's good to hear they are getting into everyone's hands even if they are just punching some holes with them, (practice). Mine came on April 3, (my birthday). Everything shipped from McFeely's and arrived a day early. Great service. All I can say is, what a machine. Happy motoring everyone. This item is my first Festool.
