Hey guys, finally got some time in with my new kapex today and 50% of the time the guard would not spring back after the cut!!! Has anyone else experienced this? I don't want to lose my knuckles...

My bad, this should be in tool problems.

My Kapex would not spring back up all the way automatically (I had to "help" it back up) and my guard would remain about 1/2 way retracted. If I pushed the saw all the way back up, the guard would return to normal.

I ended up taking my saw to Festool during a training class, and they replaced the main spring. Everything now functions as it should.

Does your issue appear to be a "weak" spring?

Thanks jeff, maybe, I will have a good look tmrw, and yes it doesn't really spring back with any force, just seems to drop.
Think I may have misunderstood, the head springs up fine it's the guard that's the issue

My Kapex is the opposite, kinda.  It is really stiff to pull it down.  Anyone know of an adjustment for this ?

Dan, what you think of the UG stand ?  I really like mine.

Woodguy, you need to clean your roller on the plastic blade guard as well as the bearing on the top of the Kapex, It is for the metal arm to slide on that operates the blade guard. Both need to be cleaned and lubed. It will work like new again.

Mine was fixed once for the blade guard not releasing and making it almost impossible to lower the saw head.

it happened to me small offcut shot up and knocked the return spring off, remove the blade and you should be able to see, the spring has a hook on one end and the spring is t shaped on the other it was this side that came off you have to look carefully at it

If you're having problems with your Festool, make use of the warranty. Call the service department in your country. They are in the best position to diagnose, offer assistance over the phone, and (if required) make a repair.

For those in the US/Canada, I am nearly always available if you need assistance.

Thanks Shane.  I think my problem is one that could be easily adjusted so i don't want to send it in for a silly adjustment, i may phone
them for tech advise.

Cant remember what the other thread was but i feel i should mention my Carvex.  I slated it quite a bit for the problems it had but after getting it back from repair all i can say is WOW.  What a stunning jigsaw  [big grin]  Shame you guys cant get it  [poke]

LOL Shane,  Dan has had a lot of Fun with his Kapex'S already and I think he just wanted to see if its something other people have had problems with and if there is a simple solution because I think he has dried out his warranty already lol

3rd NEW replacement Kapex already so this will be become his 4th replacement/repair with in couple weeks of owning a kapex.  Not many people have had 3 new kapex's in 2 weeks and he might be making it the 4th if he gets it send back for the Guard unless it gets repaired. lol  Might be a Record!  Any one else had 3/4 kapexs in couple of weeks?

Ha ha! What jmb said...yes its been a nightmare but rex crystals has been fantastic and the saw cuts amazingly well my cornice mitres have never been so good! Woodguy, i havent used the stand yet ive been using it on the deck with 2 x systainers, think ill be using the stand tmoz.

More problems with the saw binding, while coming down, than with the guard springing back in it's safety position.  [huh]
As I said before, not exactly what I was expecting from a Germany tool!
I'm German and I'm some what embarrassed with the outcome of these products!
If it wasn't for the dust collection feature most of these tools offer, I wouldn't have purchased them, especially at the price being asked.
IMO! [smile]

WD40!!!! just lube it up, also the spring in the back.. it'll work better then when you get it straight from the factory!!!

I had the guard hang up and found that really fine wood dust was packed into the return spring, which goes over a roller on the RHS. I vacked it out and it hasn't bothered me since. I love WD40, but find that a lot of stuff in turn sticks to it, and it builds up into a gack. I use silicone usually.

silicone [scared]I guess you dont do any finishing [bite tongue]

well, all sorted now...the guard hanging up issue was on my 2nd kapex but now i have a 3rd replacement and that has been perfectly fine...as for my thoughts on the saw...i think the saw is fantastic and the ug set is great also, its sometimes hard to set it up on rough terrain but once you have it set up its great, its a bit more fussy to set up than my dewalt but for me the results are well worth it, even my customers have commented on it...bit pricey but it gives me the results i demand, faster, easier.

Why, is WD40 especially good for finishing?
