I was thinking Mr. suds would be looking at the Extension Set.

Gonna play with it and learn, then start with something that is easy to take down and can be utilized for other projects. $700 for the dedicated extension is not what I think is a good purchase. I am really challenged for space and that was one reason for the Kapex. That, combined with my lack of knowledge/experience makes each purchase a complicated decision. I have the 1080 table and was thinking of getting another one plus the Vika. I have the Walko on order as well as the Jawhorse so creating a fence etc is going to be part of all this. At 700 I could get 2 more 1080's and have lots of room for set up etc, so I'm not convinced the extension they sell would be a good investment compared to other alternatives.
Any suggestions, ideas, your set up would be deeply appreciated.

I think if you were making a living doing woodworking/carpentry, as it seems many of you are, it would make sense because of its' portability. I know if I was good enough to make a living at this and was going from job to job I could justify it because of the portability and ease of set up. Looks like it has a lot more features that could be useful and like all their systems, very well constructed.
hi suds, my kapex table cost me $20 for mdf, $20 for castors. $40 all up and i love it!
i love the table so much i made 6 of them!
they are a very basic design, copied from a better design here on this forum, 600mm long, 700mm height plus another 100mm for the castors, and 600mm from front to back with 2 doors on them. very basic and easy to make and they work perfectly.
i put lockable castors on all my tables, makes it easy to move them about my very small garage.
i also made a sliding drawer cabinet for some of my systainers, mine are very basic mdf, not worth showing photos, do a search on this site and you will find some very cool designs for systainer storage.

That extension set is nice. But the extension supports themselves are very short. They extend out only as far as the Kapex table does. It seem like if you were cutting a lengthy board with a width greater than 5" or so, you'd have a stability problem. Is that the case?

For 700.00? That is one of the Festool purchases I would stay away from. Compare that to a Domino, TS saw or sander. I just do not see where the 700.00 comes from for that Extension set. Not to mention there are a few setups a tad less money(some models) that are actually better and have been talked about here many times.

Even though I do not like some things about the Sawhelper it sure is nicer than the Festool. I would not recommend either set up for a shop, but if you are on the move I think the Sawhelper is the way to go.

I built a set of Kapex extensions for under $40 and have been very happy with them - I could not justify the Festool set price given other items I needed to buy. I'm sure it's a great product, but I found building one and attaching to the crown moulding wings has worked very well. I have sense modified these to use telescoping wooden legs that drop to the ground at the end of each fence - giving me more flexibility and the ability to move the rails to my MFT/3 when I need extensions there.

I saw the new kapex stand and for the big bucks they want for it it really isnt very much to it. could have been made better. but hey
