Simple question, but I'm conflicted. I share Per's sentiments about paying whatever I need to to help me get the job done, but I also share Lou's passion for grabbing a great deal whenever they turn up. I saw the $452 deal for the Makita 12" slider - the 10" slider was going for about $325 (I think). It killed me to pass the action, but I already have 3 Makita miter saws. I already have the LS1013, but I was ready to pick up a new one - if I saw that deal again, I would grab it.
It was hard for me to buy my first Festools. Seemed unnatural to pay 3x or 4x more for a tool, but the ones that I have bought are earning their keep. Still, there are plenty of the green tools that I won't pay the premium for.
Don't get me wrong, I am definitely drooling over the Kapex, but I am trying to control my tool-lust by remembering that in addition to the cost of the Kapex, I will be compelled to fork out another $600 or $700 bucks for the cool accessories.
I'm hoping that we catch a break and the marketing geniuses determine that it will be wiser to move some big numbers rather than hold out for the high-end interior carpenters and woodworkers only (who would always be willing to pay top dollar if it helped them make money). I think that I saw a "guess" by a dealer that worked out to be cheaper than the prices from the countries that already have the Kapex - after the exchange rate conversion.
