Kapex Price Poll - How much would you spend?

At what price point would you DEFINITELY buy a Kapex?

Ahh,

I am a optimist.

So lets start a pool.

My bet is on October 2007.

Why?

Cause its a miter saw.

Nothing Freaky or Funky to tickle our dear friends at UL.

Maybe wishful thinking,

but, I bet this thing is coming sooner then we

expect.

Per

NOTE!  I HAVE NO SNEAKY FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE.

Per,

Well dang!  That was my guess too.  I'd say announcement in October and availability in November.  Price $1,040.

And no, I have no advance knowledge either.   I think it will be slightly over $1,000 and since Festool likes to price things at x30, x40, I thought this was a safe bet.

Regards,

Dan.

Ok I will guestimate December date and cost of $1599.00 after reading some overseas pricing, this is my take on it...

There's no way it'll cost more here than it does in Europe. Its somewhere in the high $1,300 range with the current conversion rate.

I expect it to be between $1,000 and $1,200. I don't have the first clue as to when.

I was at a rockler store today and a festool rep was in the store.  I asked him about the kapex and he said to expect it in the second half of the year and the cost would be in the $1300 range.

Kev,

Thanks for bumping this thread. I hadn't seen it before. Given what I paid for mine, and the exchange rate, I'd be gutted if you guys in the US got it for less than $1300....

Jeez,

Guess I lost the pool, hunh?

Bokay, howzabout a price pool?

I'm going for a penny under 1200 hunerd.

Aha...

Our answer to NAINA is AFLINA!

I take it that's Available For Less In North America? Why not, everything else is.... :P

For what it's worth, at today's exchange rate, I paid (and the street price) for the Kapex $1524!!!!

I don't care much about price as long as it can do what I want it to do.  I haven't decided yet, whether or not it "CAN".  I really hope that it's capacity can do what I  need, and that the quality is what I'd expect for the dollars spent.  With that said and the current poor dollar exchange rate $1,460 intro $1,499 regular.

I couldn't vote because there wasn't a choice called "I don't know".  Honestly, other than knowing it is a miter saw, I know nothing about it.  My rationale for not looking is, it is not available here yet so why bother?  When it becomes available I will look.  In the meantime, there isn't much point to lusting over an item that is currently made from the exotic material called "unobtainium".
Steve
I also don't understand the point of encouraging Festool to price it even higher than they might be likely to otherwise.

Much less than 800$ you guys are dreaming!! It can't be cheaper than the best CMS on the market in the US. My Dewalt was that much and its a piece of crap compared to the Festool saw! I hate the thing, it blows dust everywere, its a pain to change blades, did not come with laser... I could go on and on...
That low ball price shouldn't even be in the poll.
My 2 cents

Mirko,

I'm with Lou M on this one too. The question was at what price would you DEFINITELY purchase a Kapex? I love my Makita LS1013 and have never had any issues with it in regards to what it would or would not do, or accuracy, or table size, etc. The only thing that I don't like is the dust collection.

To get me to sell off my Makita and purchase a Kapex, the price would have to be under $800. I'm guessing that it will be like $1400. There is no way I'd pay that kind of money for a chop saw, even if it played my MP3s and sang me to sleep at night. I could make all sorts of dust collection accessories or buy hoods or whatever for the selling price of my Makita to up it to a Kapex (around $1000?).

Just my $.02,

Rod

I'm with Lou and Rod on this. I have a DeWalt which I have been very happy with and it earned its keep when we remodeled our kitchen and family room about 10 years ago. It also saw heavy duty when my son put a huge addition on his house about 5 years ago. Since then, however, it has been sitting in the corner, lonely and forlorn wondering if it will ever get another chance to come out and play. I am a hobbiest and DIYer and do not earn my living with my tools. For the types of things I build now, I don't have a lot of use for a chop saw. When the Kapex hits our shores I'm sure I will drool and slobber all over it at my dealers, but at this time I don't see a Kapex in my future (kind of like the planer and jigsaw). Nice tools, but not worth the money for me. Now, if I were a finish carpenter or such and earned my living with my tools, I would be whistleing a different tune (especially on the Kapex).

I think I will pay what ever the price tag says. With-in reason and if I can afford it at the time.
I like to think about the purchase as an investment.
I am a professional and currently use a Makita ls1212. I use the saw nearly everyday. I find that it is very accurate cutting miters but not nearly as accurate on the bevel. Not that I cant set the bevel accurately but when the saw is set at a bevel the weight of the saw head tends to flex the bars ever so slightly during a slide cut and the cut is affected.
My Makita is 6 years old but I take very good care of my babies and wouldnt be suprised to have another 6 or even 10 years of service from her.
I paid 600.00 for her. say the Kapex is another 800 on top of that. I would expect at least 10 years or more of service with the kapex
How long would it take for me to make up the 800 price difference in time saved in: 1- not sweeping up the dust, 2- not having to rework compound angle joints, 3- set up time for a lighter saw with a smaller footprint?
I think maybe 1-2 years and then it would all be time saved for me and more food on the table for my starving children that havent eaten in 1-2 years ;D

Eiji,

1-2 years?

Nah, faster then that.

See, when I work in Mrs. Mcgillicuddys living room, right on top of that fine carpet,

and am able to see my work right there rather then commute to the deck or

driveway, the job is going to go much faster.

And when she tells her sister Madge about the fine young man with the sense

of humor that works a clean stand up act....

It becomes harder to get off that block.

It doesn't seem to be like the late 80s, early nineties anymore,

where one could book a whole neighborhood for 3 years plus.

Per

Simple question, but I'm conflicted.  I share Per's sentiments about paying whatever I need to to help me get the job done, but I also share Lou's passion for grabbing a great deal whenever they turn up.  I saw the $452 deal for the Makita 12" slider - the 10" slider was going for about $325 (I think).  It killed me to pass the action, but I already have 3 Makita miter saws.  I already have the LS1013, but I was ready to pick up a new one - if I saw that deal again, I would grab it.

It was hard for me to buy my first Festools.  Seemed unnatural to pay 3x or 4x more for a tool, but the ones that I have bought are earning their keep.  Still, there are plenty of the green tools that I won't pay the premium for.

Don't get me wrong, I am definitely drooling over the Kapex, but I am trying to control my tool-lust by remembering that in addition to the cost of the Kapex, I will be compelled to fork out another $600 or $700 bucks for the cool accessories.

I'm hoping that we catch a break and the marketing geniuses determine that it will be wiser to move some big numbers rather than hold out for the high-end interior carpenters and woodworkers only (who would always be willing to pay top dollar if it helped them make money).  I think that I saw a "guess" by a dealer that worked out to be cheaper than the prices from the countries that already have the Kapex - after the exchange rate conversion.
