I went to Atlas Machinery to order the screws and knob for my Domiplate and I came out with a Kapex and UG set.
I am really looking forward to never using the Ryobi saw I have.

Is there a setup/calibration routine or is it ready to go out of the box.

Thanks
Doug

Hi Doug,

Welcome !  [smile]

It should be good out of the box. But won't hurt to check. You can find an excellent supplemental manual here http://www.waterfront-woods.com/festool/

The Kapex supplemental  manual has all the calibration procedures.

Doug, welcome to the forum. Like Seth pointed out, the Kapex is factory calibration to pretty tight tolerances and should be completely dialed in right out of the box. The only thing you may want to do is tweak the lasers to your liking, which is described in the owners manual or in the supplemental manual Seth linked to. I'm confident you'll be blown away by the Kapex compared to your current saw.

Funny, I was just talkig about the sam subject to a friend.

On the Kapex....one last word about it....then I'll let it go, until you mention it .... or not.

Many guys build sleds for their table saws, because their miter saw isn't up to snuff and accurate enough.

I'm here saying....the Kapex is the exception, and is that accurate and that a sled is not needed for anything smaller than a 12" crosscut.

When I got mine, I figured that I'd have to calibrate it, as I do all my tools when new.

Even the highly regarded Incra stuff....I've re calibrated them all.

So, I did the 5 cut method with the Kapex, to see how far it was off.

It was some ridiculously low number of TEN THOUNDSANTHS over a 12" span!!!!

I'm convinced that the accuracy of the Kapex is because of their protractor scales, that is different than most any other saw out there.

Amazing how that happens - if you figure out why ... don't tell us  [wink]

I figure that Shane owes Ryan and I a piece of commission for the knob & screws being out of stock...  [big grin]

Shawn (Ederman) is quite convincing isn't he.
If you haven't met him, he's a great evangelist for Festool.

Thanks to everyone for the tips and additional info on the Kapex. It's still in the box.
My father in law had his open heart surgery suddenly moved up....10 hour operation - he had an aneurism along the length of his aorta with a 5cm bulge in it.
Hopefully when things settle down I'll have time to open it up.
Just wanted say I appreciate your quick replies.

Damn. Hope he gets well soon. Good to hear they could actually move his surgery up.
