Kapex ??

... that this thing will be sold in the US?  It seems like they've had other miter saws that weren't imported here.  Is this destined to be another Festool that they don't sell to us?  (UL again?)

No, I think we will see it here, just don't know when.

Bob

Here are some details about the Kapex - the images are a bit small but readable - in german

E 975 bare or E 1600 with a MFT 800 table

Thanks for posting the images, thanks even more for confirming the small print prices.

975 Euros = US$1269 = CAN$1502.
1600 Euros = US$2082 = CAN$2465

Wow!

I found some more info about the Kapex - in dutch this time. It has some good images.

Oh stop, I can't take it.

Now I have to see if Homeland Security will take me off

the NO-Fly list.

dwsnip- where did you find those? I would like to try the babel fish web page translator, do you have a link?

I saw a demonstration of it today on a Netherlands exhibition. It was impressive! Real Festool quality with a different design then other similar saws. Have to make some money first for buying it.

Regards,

Jan

The dutch source might have been here http://www.schaaptools.nl/festool.php

Until yesterday, a german tool-trader hat the german brochure on his website.

As it seems, Festool isn't happy about this "leaking" of information before the official announcement of the Kapex - at least, each of these informations "vanished" almost immediately after they were linked in a german woodworker forum yesterday and today.

Regards
Markus

Kapex looks pretty groovy, however, I was really intrigued by that paint remover tool. What's that how much and is it available? I have nearly every sander in the arsenal and still more paint to remove, this town is full of it. peace dan?

Hai Jim - MarkusS gues is right: I found the folder onhttp://www.schaaptools.nl. They had the folder only for a short while on their site. Seems indeed that Festool is quite keen on keeping this info upto 1-3-2007 or so.

I am having trouble posting this.  Third time lucky.  I'm probably wasring my time, but as a Festool addict...

Thanks for your effort posting the brochure, Richard.

New things I learned from the brochure:

Handle and switch designed so that both the right-handed and left-handed can use it safely.

They claim that dust collection will be equal to what we've come to expect from Festool.  That by itself makes the Kapex desirable.

Possible to make dadoes.  (I can do that with a Delta miter saw, but the adjustment is a PITA.  Wonder how Festool designed the adjustment?)

Double line laser.

The Kapex has a cord reel built in.

Has anyone seen what size blade this thing takes yet? I thought I read somewhere that it was a 12", but someone posted on another forum that it was closer 10". Anyone know yet? I don't speak or read any language other than English (and even that is marginal).

Don't know about the blade, but apparently the depth of cut is 4.72 inches, the longest cut 12 inches.

Lou, someone who looked at it says that it is 10", but cuts deeper because the fence is farther back?? Or at least I think that's what he said.

Not as deep as some non-sliders, but deeper than most other sliders. Thanks Ned.

Jim, you and I must have read the same thing then. The guy who posted it was from Belgium. I just can't remember if it was here or on another site (too lazy to look).

I just pulled the trigger on a 12" Makita though. Amazon (ugh, I hate dealing with them) has them on sale right now for $452 delivered and you get a free 18V Li-ion drill too. I couldn't pass it up. I'd love to wait for the Festool, but there's no way. I'll probably have an issue with the price of it when it does arrive anyway. We'll see. If its that great of a tool, I'll sell the Makita and get the Kapex. Could be 5 years getting here with all the UL approval nonsense. I may have killed the Makita by then anyway.

I'm sort of in the same boat, I bought the high zoot 12" Hitachi laser scms for one of the guys who worked for me and then he upped and quit and took the saw with him.... >:( so Im trying to limp along on an old Makita 12" until the Kapex comes out. Don't know if I'll make it or not.  :-\ Come on UL!
