Kapex ??

Well that solves the old "Kapex" mystery.

Alfons,  where are you located?  And if you dont mind answering a translation question, is that CMS currently for sale in Germany?

Thanks

Dave

Perfect!!!  I was just researching SCMS's and now this!  Does anyone have any more info?  Is that what Christian O. was referring to in one of the 'Contact Festool' posts?

Hi there!

I'm situated in Sweden, so my German is probably as good as yours.

As i understand the Kapex was only presented today, there are no prices presented yet. On the Swedish website the only message is that there is going to be more information next week.

Judging from the pictures the machine looks fairly large, it might be heavy. And i wonder why the engine and blade moves on the slide, instead of being mounted on the slides and having the slides move in the support?

OK, this can only be Festool:

  • The hight of the table is exactly the same hight as a Systainer 1, so you can use the systainer as support for long material
  • A special lose angle tool helps you copy angles and divide them when you set the miter angle
  • A special place to store the cable when you go mobile
  • Perfect fit and clamps to the MFT

...and the list goes on and on...damned them Germans, the are almost to clever for me. :D

Standing Capacity on the fence of ~4.8" is a little small for most of the moldings I work with...  We'll just have to wait and see (several years for sure) as it may still prove very useful on a daily basis.  Doesn't appear to be that different of a tool from every other CMS out there so approval shouldn't be that bad.

Chris...

Can you imagine - a SCMS that might actually have dust collection that works?  It is just a shame that we will have to wait 2 years to get our hands on one...  One thing that I liked was an adjustable bracket for holding crown molding in place.  One thing that I did not like - only has the bracket on one side...

Seems to me.......

On the "old" FOG....

Wasn't there a post by the Herr Doktor Festool USA on how we liked the name "Kapex" or something like it?

Looks like the weight is 21.5 kg, so substantial, but not too heavy.

I particularly like that the saw moves on its linear bearings on posts that come toward the front, so if you put the device in a shop fixed setting, you can be near the wall, and not have to worry about a carriage that extends back one or two feet from the footprint of the saw.

Are you guys seeing more than the popup with the peek-a-boo image of the kapex? I tried clicking on the picture but nothing happens.

Hello there,

it seems they shut this image down, not before a few of us grabbed it. They only left the teaser at the website's.

I dont know why, but here in Australia we've had the Festool brand for over 20yrs, & you've only had it for a couple of years I think. Anyhow, It means I've had a long time to fall under the spell of this brand, & now have a lot of their equipment. I can only say it's worth every penny to me as a tradesman in the finish carpentry area. We've had the Domino joiner for a while now & it is the most revolutionary power tool I've ever had. If the Kapex brings to the SCMS market the sort of innovation Festool has applied to every other tool it has made, then we are in for a treat. About 1yr ago I shopped for a new SCMS & settled on the Dewalt DW708. At the time it was the most well engineered of the bunch, but in practice it has a few shortcommings I could live without. The lack of soft start for a saw of this power is truly an astounding decision for the Dewalt engineers to make. It starts with a bang & takes a few seconds to settle down, even then she's anything but smooth. Dust extraction is not dealt well by any of the other brands, but is a Festool specialty so look for brilliant performance in this area. This would be a great help when dealing with MDF mouldings that are becomming more prevalant. Twin laser beams, one for each side of the blade. At last a big easy to read degree scale on the bevel setting. I hope its a dual bevel design, can't see that from the pic. Anyhow, thats enough of a drool from me for now.

For the first few years of my WW shop, i had only the RAS for a statioary power tool.  Later, when I was able to introduce a TS & BS into the mix, I had read how much less space a SCMS took up than a RAS.  I felt that moving the RAS out to the barn for storage and moving a SCMS into the vacated space would save me a ton of room.  It was very quickly discovered that saving space was NOT one of the advantages to owning a SCMS.  With those sliding posts to te rear, i needed to move the machine out into space that used to be reserved for my feet.  The dust collection had been quite simple in comparison with the old RAS.  Wiith the SCMS, I needed a whole lot more space to build a box to collect the dust.  I eventually, once I discovered the ATF 55, was able to retire the SCMS to be used only outdoors where I did not worry about dust collection and/or floorspace.  NOW! Festool is coming out with a SCMS that addresses all of the aforementined problems.  My wife (German) hates those guys over there in Stutgart (practically next dor to her birth town) for finding so many ways to upset the budget.  Oh well, she has discovered some Deutch toys of her own to play with.

Well thats just great!

I am in the market for a second miter saw, I need a second for when I do installs, I do a lot of built ins in some local condos and I am tired of humping my 12" Dewalt 708. All the apartments always seem to be as far away from the elevator as possible. I do have one of those Home Depot suv's for the saw, but people don't like me bringing it as it is so big!
So now the dilema, should I wait the 12 -18 months, or should I buy something else? I have been looking but none of the other saws seem to be that good.

Regards

Paul

I can already see it, a mini homemade sysport with this saw attached on top! Perfect for transporting.

Sorry just getting a little excited!
