What you should do is create a little spousal tax.  For instance, when I get up early to bike 9 miles to the gym every Saturday morning, my wife at least stirs.  And she definitely doesn't like to be disturbed at 5 AM.  However, on the bike ride back I get her a fancy cup of coffee, which she definitely does like.  It's a win-win situation, enabled mainly by my ultra-cheap gym membership and an insulated mug.

If your garage is making you money, no wonder she's slightly unenthusiastic.  But throw in a little builderbob garage tax, and she'll probably feel she's making money, at least when you aren't goofing off here at FOG.  Now get back to work, dear!

CutsTwice, what is the channel in the edge of your bench holding the clamps.  It looks like 2 pieces of flat stock properly spaced.  Details, please!
 
I've been wondering if a shop in being could have a place here too? Exited as I am I'd like to show the drawings. The plan is that as soon as the snow clears we start building, though getting our house renovation done is main priority for now. (coming April we're working on that for a year) We might eventually build "only" (lol) half of the shop space drawn but that all depends on how much time, effort and money the house will still take but for now we're still into the full monty. I am looking forward having some basic stationary machines like a bandsaw, router table and a thickness planes because now I unfortunately only have, though satisfying, only the green stuff.  [laughing]

Otis04, that channel was made on my router table before I assembled the frame for the MDF. I think they were 4 x 3/4 poplar boards that I plowed out with a 5/16 straight bit, then ran a keyhole bit through each one four times to allow clearance for the wide part of the clamps. I purposely made them a sloppy fit  so that the clamps would slide in and out quickly and easily. It was quite a bit cheaper than buying an MFT. :)

Also, here is what I'm currently working on. It's about 30 feet of base cabinets to support my Kapex and planer while still allowing over 96 inches of in feed and out feed for both. The storage underneath will be nice too. Behind the right side of the top (the part that's done) I will install uppers for storing sustainers that will sit right on the countertop behind my Kreg saw stop assembly, and the left side will accommodate the planer so that the under table will be flush with the countertops just like the Kapex is. The green wall will hold custom made brackets for all my Woodpeckers stuff between the planer and the saw. It's a lot of darned work, but I'll get it done eventually.

Cutstwice,  Looks great!  Love the cabinets!  Can't wait to see the finish product!  But I got to ask.......if you own Festool's then what's with all the dust on the floor?  [poke]      Keep up the good work.  Some day I will get my shop in order.  Your pics are putting a lot of ideas in my head.  Thanks !

Haha, me Kreg jigs are the culprit. I haven't gotten around to getting the one with dust collection because I'd like to have a Porter Cable pocket hole cutter one of these days.

They've been moving around for the last couple of weeks anyway. lol. I just likes the color scheme.

A subtle green line could have worked (and this is a personal thing ...) but I couldn't work with those colours being so vivid and intense. I'd be wearing sunglasses instead of protective glasses.

I would have gone for systainer grey instead  [big grin]

Steve, I had a piece of PVC pipe shatter in the Kapex, and the guard was destroyed. I'm in the process of finding a new one to replace it, but it isn't allowed to discuss the absence of safety equipment on the forum, and if I had thought of it, I would not have put the saw in the pictures. Hopefully I can figure out how to blur out the saw in Aperture before somebody in charge deletes the post...or worse, the thread.

Kev, It hadn't even crossed my mind to use grey instead of green, and that's a good idea. If it turns out that the green damages my retinas after a bit of time down there, I think that I'll give the grey a try. :)

There is a difference between

a). having the guard shatter and getting a new one to replace (replacing it is a good thing) it.  [smile]

And

b). purposefully removing the guard (bad thing).  [sad]

And here you thought no one was paying attention  [eek]  [wink]
