light for 1400 router

From another forum, here are instructions for making a lighted base for a router. He replaces the OEM base with a thicker acrylic and installs the LEDs in that. The lights are powered by a 9V battery but there was some discussion about wiring them into the router power too. I don't have a Festool router so not sure how this would apply, but it's certainly a very well thought-out modification.

That's exactly the solution that MLCS uses. They use LED's and a red laser. Pretty inexpensive...$59 on sale.

That is interesting.  I wonder if a similar setup could be done by gluing the LEDs to the outside of OF 1010 dust hood.  No new base required.  Maybe with a connector to make it easier to remove it.

the reason not to do it is that is would be easy. I am going to do this. A great simply idea. I will use the lamps that use rechargeable AA batteries.

Better yet, this US$13.56 (shipped) 3 AA battery-powered self-adhesive LED light strip kit (w/remote control!):

You could change the color of the light depending on if you are working with light or dark woods. :-)

These lights don’t bend to the radius we would need if installed to point down at the work.

Someone just needs to develop a fully integrated kit for the routers to add a light and set up a business for this.  Then Festool will introduce new routers a week later with a light!

Regarding the button lamp.  Here is a before and after picture with my OF 1010 router:

They do seem to work to better illuminate the router base.  I need to spend some more time to make some inserts to create a better platform to stick them to.  They might work better in an OF1400 as it may have a larger place to mount them.  I don't have a OF 1400 so can't tell.

I may also try trying to modify one of the lamps to see if I can make it fit better.

Overall, well worth the $10 :-)

I believe these are size of a quarter?
Where did you install this on your 1010 router?
Picture of the installed light?

They are about 1 1/4" diameter, and 7/8" if you trim the wide base, not counting the LED part.    They are about 9/16" thick.

Two pictures:

I hope this is helpful.  I did trim them to make them easier to fit.  Probably no longer waterproof, but it doesn't appear to impact their operation.  I used the thick double sided tape to mount them, several layers cut to fit.

True dat, Deformed, a couple months after I invested in a pair of Virutex vacuum pods, Festool decided to release the vac system here,  which of course I had to have because of the various head options.

Ideally the light source would work best if it were housed in the actual dust shroud. But as we all know that dust shroud has a lot of its own issues at least on the 1400. A proper solution as far as marketing goes would be to fix the dust shroud issues and then integrate the light in there as well. I am convinced no one at Festool really tested that shroud on the 1400 in terms of real world use and durability. First to go is that removable clear sliding portion etc.

And while we are at it what the 1400 also needs as an addition to the knob for adjusting depth is a switch on top to do the same function that way when the router is on the track we can use our same hand for pushing down to lock it. There are a lot of situations where the track guide needs to be firmly held in place which makes doing the operation above with one's other hand while plunging really annoying. Maybe for now we need a forearm ergo pad on the guide itself?  [eek]

Here's a little LED lamp with replaceable batteries:
https://www.100candles.com/i-9510/W...MIzZv-mdvQ4AIVjJyzCh1-kAaYEAQYBCABEgIeJfD_BwE

Unsure what the lumen output is but seems like a little dot of Velcro would work nicely for affixing one or two to the body of the router.

The same source also has a three-diode version:
https://www.100candles.com/i-6401/White-Submersible-Triple-LED-Light

US$11.73 for two incl. shipping.

Heard back from the retailer: the three diode version that I referenced above has a 21 lumen output (for comparison, the one-time use/throw-away button lights have a 17 lumen output).

What are the dust shroud issues?

I bought the three diode buttons from 100 candles...not impressed with light output...keep looking for other options
