List of 65mm trim router motors

I just bought a trim router lift and the largest motor circumference spec it can handle  is 65mm.  That Motor circumference Spec does not seem to show up on the Trim Router Tool Company's spec sheet.  So the only router I can add to this hopefully long list is:

Makita RT0701C 1-1/4 HP Compact Router.

Anybody want to add to the list?

Hi [member=62711]krudawg[/member] ,

I do not have specific information regarding other routers, since I am only running the Makita trim routers (4x RT0701C corded, 2x XTR01Z18V cordless, and 1x GTR01Z 40V cordless). That being said, with the acknowledgment that they are are not perfect for every application, I've been very happy with the little Makita routers.

It's also worth mentioning that MuscleChuck has released a 1/4" MuscleChuck for the Makita palm routers, not available for other brands:https://musclechuck.com/product/1-4-inch-musclechuck/

The GTR01 is my favorite because it has the AWS chip to auto-start my vac. Paired with the MuscleChuck, bit changes are very fast, and allows me to carry fewer routers on-site, which frees up space in the van.

Which router lift did you purchase?

IIRC the MLCS trim router is 65mm body and Carbide3D has a 65mm trim router they sell for use in the Shapeoko CNC's.

Well its a Router Lift from Banggood and it is a Enjoywood GD7.  It is solidly built and the reviews are excellent.  You have two options when you order it - 65mm router or a 69mm router accomodation

Hey Tom, thanks;  That's a really cool chuck.  I will order one when I decide between trim routers in 65mm  size.

Fwiw, I've been running one of the GD7 lifts with a RTO701c for the past 2 years or so and I'm very pleased so far. It's an amazingly capable little combo. I built a plexiglass box around it with a dust port and now I use it more than my 1/2" PC in the dedicated router table. It's just great for roundovers and all the small stuff, and the dust collection is great too.

The MuscleChuck looks interesting. It would be nice to be able to change bits as quickly as possible.

I use the Makita trim router in this ...

Boxed in to increase dust collection (via fence and from below). shown with earlier fence ...

The 1/4" collet has been swapped out for 8mm. This improved stability four fold.

Yeah, it's too bad the 8mm collet/shank size isn't more available in the US, it seems like the sweet spot for these smaller routers especially now that there are more powerful brushless versions of them.

8 mm collets are available for multiple trim routers from TSO Products, Bits and Bits, even Amazon.

I've had an OF1010 for about a year now and I can say, without reservation, that 8mm router bits sets are a rare find here in the states.  I found a small Bosch Set on Amazon which leaves a lot to be desired as far as selection goes.  You can also find an occasional 8mm bit made by Amana but that's it.  If you know a source for 8mm shank router bits, please reply with a link - I am interested

There are a few threads on the forum that discuss how/where to find 8mm bits for US customers.

I found this set on Amazon.https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MHNSXZT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1  Not sure if it's the one you're talking about but I think it's a decent selection and price.  Shipped from the UK, so it took a bit of time to arrive, but not real excessive.

As far as I know these guys do international shipping to the states as well. I order from them regularly and have no complaints. They carry the CMT brand, thus ordering 8 mm shanks should be no problem at all. I do like CMT for their quality, but have no association with this party whatsoever. Just a satisfied customer.

I followed up on your recommendation after I bought the Makita Corded Trim Router and ordered the Muscle Chuck - thanks

My Shapeoko CNC uses a router that's essentially a white-branded version of the Makita - takes Makita collets (although Carbide3D makes higher quality collets for it that I use). I'm betting the Muscle Chuck would fit, but not sure it's suitable for CNC use.

Why is the Makita version so different than the others - and only for ¼" bits? I use ⅛" bits sometimes and there is even a ⅜" collet available for this router.

Check out Lee Valley. They have quite a few. I have been buying bits for my MFK700 from them for years.
Woodpeckers has a few too, and they have a request department, so pestering someone there might yield some results. (it's not really pestering, I was told personally by a couple of different people there to do this) They really do want to know what we are looking for...and not finding.

If you need the spirals and woodpeckers is out of stock, there's also Dreanique on AliExpress.  It's basically SpeTools (on amazon). I've got the 8mm compression and it works fine.  While that diameter only nibbles, you can definitely get a good feedrate and I'm less worried about it snapping like the 1/4 whitesides.

Yes, as long as it will fit in the path you need to cut, 8mm bits will be far more robust than 1/4".
We use them in production CNC machines, for the grooves in cabinet sides (for backs) and drawer sides too. (bottoms)
They also save time, by cutting the groove in a single pass, rather than up and back with a 1/4" (2 passes)
