Logo Contest

With the new re-design having a sleeker look, here are a few logos that may fit. Matthew the colors are not a match to yours, but you can change the background color of the header, right? The program I have doesn't match HTML colors, it only has a color wheel.

Brice,
Thanks for the contributions.  They look really good, and I'll post them to the test forum soon so people can see what they look like in context.

Yes, I think the easier thing for me to do with this is just take contributions, then use my graphics program to match the background to the colors in the logos.

Thanks again for contributing!

Matthew

  Hey everyone, I like to hear your opinions on the logos (I bet Scott would too). Give us feedback, what do you like and don't like on the new logos. What would you like to see, different font, darker colors, let us know.

  Hi, Brice

    O.K. you asked for it... :)    Slick lettering style.  I would say that I like the first and the last best.  I would also say to add some additional graphic with out making it look like a business site. I am not sure exactly what though.
I don't know how else to put that.  :-\  Color seems good.

I see what's going on now with the white text. It floats with the resolution and only the right side expands (I couldn't understand what people were talking about before because on my screen the white text was over the background only not the logo)... humm

I got no idea how to design around that off the top of my head. It will be in a different location relative to the logo image depending on the users resolution AND the size of their browser window........

Hi, Scott

  O.K. Brice asked for it for you :)

              Color seems good. And I see that you are working on the text being over the graphics and such.  It looks a little cluttered. And, to me, the scattered tools give it the look of an advertising banner.  I like the white text options on the left for Recent Posts etc.
            Just my two cents.

Seth

Here's what I'm talking about;

1024 x 768
[attachthumb=1]
1152 x 720
[attachthumb=2]
1280 x 800
[attachthumb=3]
1280 x 1024
[attachthumb=4]
1440 x 852 (my default)
[attachthumb=5]
1650 x 1050
[attachthumb=6]

Scott

Seth, I like the last one the best, here are two of that one with changes to the "discussion and multimedia..." and a darker background. Added one more, reversed the gray/black on the "discussion and multimedia..."

Looking good, guys.  I do like the latest from Brice -- the first image in the post above is my fav.

Brice, I like 1d1, before the grey lettering in the subheader. Simple, flashy.

Brice,
I like at least three of your contributions!  I'd like to install one on the test site to see how it looks.  If you had to choose one to see installed, which would it be?

I like all three in my post #25, you pick the one of those three you would like to see.

Ok Seth,

A little less cluttered  :)

Scott,

        I do think it looks better with a few less tools.  And that sloping one has some interesting ideas.

        BTW thtat should be text for Recent post etc on the right not left in my previous post. Plus I realized that this is not part of the logo.

Here's one more, a little different.

I'll cycle through all of them, installing one each day over the next three days.  I just installed the first one (Fog logo 1f1a.jpg).  Take a look and tell me what you think.

To Sott and Brice,
Thank you very much for your contributions.  Your ideas are offering all kinds of variety.  Actually, it's a bit of a challenge for me to keep up on posting them to the test site.  I don't want to bias the contest by putting one logo in for longer than another.  The contest might get a bit messy, so just let me know if you want one of your logos to be installed in the test site.

And for all the other graphics experts here -- show us your ideas!

Matthew

Matthew, I have to say, I really like the (my 1f1a) logo, gives the new forum a modern look. Of course I may be a little bias.  ;D

Hi,

        Of course  FOG!  That has interesting possibilities.

I was e-mailed by Joel K this morning (you may remember he did the fantastic renderings of some of my SketchUp models a while back) with an idea he had for a systainer-based logo.

This was his quick drawing of the main idea:

[attachthumb=1]

I used his initial idea & developed it a bit, and have come up with this logo:

[attachthumb=2]

I've also done a mock-up of how it would look with the new forum layout:

[attachthumb=3]

Please note, this is a work in progress - it needs some more work yet. The idea is to show the tools 'tumbling' out of the open systainer, or at least the drill. It needs some 'swoosh' marks (or whatever you call them!) to indicate the movement. The reason I've faded out the right hand end is because there's some text to go there, so the fade would (hopefully) make it stand out more.

I like the general concept, but the current image is too pale & washed out. I think the 3D model at the left hand end still needs some work to make the lettering stand out more, but I think it would be wise to avoid making the text too black. Any suggestions?

Hi,

  Jonny, Now that is something different! - cool idea 8).    JRB, Brice, Scott , all graphics guys... keep the ideas coming. I am looking forward to seeing what you all come up with!

Kudos to Joel K - he came up with the original concept!
