They ship via ups for most items: they put together packages that can be shipped UPS. For larger orders they ship via truck lines.
I have been pleased with the quality. I am a hobbyist furniture maker, not a pro. Their service is prompt as well.

What kind of wood are you looking for? I ordered a bunch of Birds-Eye from Bell and the shipping was not that bad -- they will work with you on combining shipments and there specail packs often have reduced or free shipping. There are a couple of great hardwood dealers in So Cal too that have a good variety of specialty woods too that might be worth checking out. I buy a lot from Strada Forest Products -- they are in Costa Mesa area and there is another dealer in Pasadena that specializes in some exotics (supplied Sam Maloof with a lot of his wood) and that might be worth a visit or a call...name esapes me, but I can track it down if you are interested).

They have GREAT material, sent me photos before I purchased it, and packaged it up nice for shipping. I highly recommend them.
