Hello,

I was about to bore the door hinge pockets for my second set of cabinets.  The door frames are made of 3/4 Medex.
I only used the bit three weeks ago to bore four pockets in the first set of doors.

I started bore #5 and it wouldn't cut. (see photo)  My OF-1400 is set to 2 because it's a bigger bit.  I learned that recently and
can't remember what the speed setting was for the first four pockets.

Can I blow up a bit after four holes if it was set too fast?
A replacement bit is $75

Can it be sharpened?

Many thanks

Luke

UPDATE:

I cleaned the bit with Goo Gone, then cranked the speed up to 5/6.  I figured it can't get worse.  The bit went through it but not exactly like butter and there was a tad bit of smoke when it first started and the plunge was hardish.   Too firm.  I cut 2 cups so far.

I am not impressed with this bit.  Hence I ordered a 35mm 1/2" shank router bit from Amana Tool.  It's rated for 28,000 RPM.  $40
I also ordered CMT bit cleaner.  My router bit collection is growing and I wondered how to best clean them.

That material that you're boring will tend to dull bits very quickly, although that seems to be be very quick. I would suggest only using it in wood. Maybe get a cheap 35mm forstner bit instead. That cmt blade and bit cleaner works great by the way. Let your blades or bits soak a few minutes and scrub with a brush

I only use a £25 cutter for drilling 35mm hinge holes and I have had it for 11 years. It has never been sharpened and has drilled hundreds of holes in MDF, Timber and Particle board doors. It is still sharp and cuts clean as a whistle.

However, I do NOT use it in a Router as I think it is far too fast. I tried it once, and couldn't get my router to run slow enough to get a clean cut.

The LR32 is a Router Accessory and the 35mm bore bit is included in the kit.  Using it in a router on a guide rail is the whole purpose of the LR32.
I finished boring the holes and they are very clean.  It just required a bit more force.  I hope to have the Amana bit soon.

Medex is simply a brand of MDF with enhanced characteristics.  I put a piece in water for a day and it came out as if nothing happened.  I use Medex to make base and moldings in my projects.  My profile router bits go right through it.

I received the Amana Tool 35mm bore bit yesterday.

It worked great boring though Medex MDF.  I set the OF1400 to 4/5.  There was a tiny bit of discolored residue at the point, to be expected, but noting at the perimeter.
Notice the wings of the bit.  They are incredibly sharp.
The bit is rated to 28,000 rpm
At $40USD it's a great value.

I only bored four cups with it.  I bored eight with the Festool bit.
