I was wondering if there was a way to use the lr32 system to help install glides.  The thinking would be so that you could adjust the drawers to different heights without having to redrill and just move to a new set of holes.

thanks for the help.

Yes, what I do is drill a set of holes in the front and in the back, this allows me to position the slide where I want. I then drill the remaining holes for the slide with a dill and Vix bit. There's times when this looks neater than having a panel filled with holes, plus I don't have to spend time drilling holes that may never be used. Of course you can drill all the holes in the panel if you want, it takes more time and you have to carefully setup the LR32 up to this.

Brice do you then use 5mm screws to go into the holes from the lr 32 and then regular screws for the remaining holes.  I am asking in reference to making some sysports and I would like the consistant spacing that it would allow me and the ease at which to change out the configuration of the port.

thanks for the help.

JJ, you got it. I find this method a good balance between ease of adjustment and speed of construction.  I use this in something like a pantry unit where the client wants the choice of where the drawers will spaced and since it's unlikely to ever be changed there's no reason to bother drilling all the holes.

I tried this before and used 5mm screws.  They are pretty much crap they split the surface alot, but who cares it is the inside, and strip alot.  I got mind from mcfelly (sp) there might be better quality ones out there.  But at the end of the day it worked.  I am not sure I would use them on anything nice but I used them on a festool holder for the gurage and in the end it worked out.

I read in another post somewhere to only use the 5 mm screws in solid hardwood.  Were you using them in plywood ?  I missed this thread first time around but am interest because I'm gonna be making 3 sysports soon.  What's your experience, Brice?

Gentlemen

5mm screws are great they hold very securely in all the materials I've used, Stoollman  I'm going to bet they were made to be used in manufactured board-

5mm screws are a integral part of the 32mm system. Most of the 5mm screws I use are of the deep thread type-which means it's for panel stock-not hard

woods.

Programmergeek make sure you are pre-drilling deep enough, if you are using system screws then most will be flat-bottomed and will make a small mound

if it runs into the bottom. Alternatively maybe use a longer screw say 10mm instead of say a 5mm, I say this because I'll drive home tons of 5x10mm's

installing drawer slides with my 14.4v makita impact and almost never strip any out.

If you have a lot of drawers to install make a jig- cut out a piece of .25" that fits vertically against the inside of the cabinet, then check it make sure it's

snug.  Then layout and drill your various hardware holes and then use this jig for all your base cabs, drill all the wholes at one shot rather than registering

off of both edges is much more accurate.

Hope this helps.

Well, T-Bone pretty much covered it, pre-drill to the right depth and you're good.
