Lubricant for Kapex, Routers, Etc....

Got the scoop from Festool. They use a lithium grease at the factory under the turntable and I think in the rail bearings as well. Possibly for the bevel bolt too but there may not be any grease at all in this area. I will find out when I take it apart.

A good example of a lithium grease is Lucas White Lithium Grease available at HD. However I will be using a synthetic grease called Super Lube since oil-based lithium can deteriorate plastic parts and Super Lube is a top rated grease.

For the rails I will be using a thin oil such as machine oil or air tool oil, rather than grease, and add a few drops every once in a while. That's because the rails are exposed to saw dust and once that mixes with grease it's a mess. Oil will be less messy for this area.

Don't forget to DEGREASE before you grease up. Purple Power is great but hard to find. Simple Green concentrate is a good option too.

I will be doing a total re-greasing every couple of years to keep it smooth and this will be a good occasion to re-calibrate the saw, since once you take it apart you have to re-calibrate anyway.

Hopefully that will help someone else.

I have used the Bostic bearing lube that Bruegf mentioned for years on many different things including festool guide rails.  I drys almost instantly and dust will not cling to it and it is sooo slick.  Also use the Superlube (grease in a tube) and it is great stuff!
