I received my Duo Dowler this week and after some practice with scrap lumber built a small cabinet for my closet of 3/4" Birch ply with 1/2" Birch ply shelves. I used the supplied 6mm dowels for the 1/2" and 8mm dowels for the 3/4" carcass (both 30mm length). There was zero print through with either dowel size.
A couple of notes on the machine.
1) excellent precision and engineering of the machine itself, solid and sturdy.
2) easy to change drill bits for different sizes (no disassemble of machine required).
3) setting depth is a breeze. Set deeper cut for shelves and shallow for face. Machine allows toggling between the two settings . i.e. 30mm dowel so I set 10mm for face side and 20mm for shelves. Unit allows up to a 40mm depth for large projects (12mm x 50mm plus dowels)
4)No slop in pin locations. This is very precise and there is no "wiggle room" adjustment like on the Domino. If measurements are not exact dowels WILL NOT permit assembly. (This is not a fault of the machine but of my skill!)
5) Machine will accept up to a 12mm pair of bits for large furniture projects or down to 3mm for shelf pins. Very versatile.
I seriously considered the Domino but felt the ability to use one machine for dowels from 3 to 12 mm was a bonus with the Duo Dowler.
