I bandsaw the stock, and then finally sand to the finished thickness with 80 grit paper on the mini drum sander. I pass the length through and it sands one side at a time. I really need a drum sander. This leaves the stock with a rough pattern for the glue, and enough smooth area for the sizing of the thickness. I bought the Domino tenon cutters as a set. They work very well.
