So with all my posting of questions about the Kapex and thinking and cogitating, I finally decided to try the Makita 10 inch corded CSMS. It is the LS 1019L.

To my horror, when I opened the carton, there were hardly any intact shipping inserts. Well, hardly any inserts and none really locked into place. When I brought the carton into my shop, I heard something heavy sliding around inside.

To my surprise, after wrestling the saw onto my MFT and doing some testing, everything is dead on. Well, the plumbness of the blade to the table may be off by a miniscule (one thou?) amount. For now, having cut a few test pieces and pushed them together in various ways, I think I am good to go for cabinet building with very tight tolerances.

The saw is very nice. Much smoother than my DeWalt DEWS780. Dust extraction is definitely decent as far as I can tell with a handful off cuts. The included blade so far is cutting beautifully. I haven't tried the laser yet, but since I cut critical cuts mostly with stops, I am not too concerned.

Anyway, in case anyone is looking at this saw, I thought I would mention my experience with it. Oh, and if so, Home Depot showed they had only 18 saws when I purchased this a day ago. Not sure what that means, but it might mean that Makita is moving away from this saw.

Great news. Congrats on the new saw.

I don't know what's going on at Home Depot and Makita, but I did hear some rumors around Christmastime that they may be moving away from Makita - which might explain why the offerings seem to be shrinking and shrinking. It could be what Lowes did with Flex and Skil.

Long ago, I bought an earlier version of that Makita CSMS and it was shipped the same way! Even my UPS guy took photos and made a draft "damaged in shipping" notice (whatever it is called) in case I found that things were missing. It was perfect and was dead-on in every way.

The one I have is essentially the same, only cordless. It has been great, the only adjustment needed was the laser.
I don't recall the packaging being that minimal though, maybe because the cordless version has a box with the batteries and charger?

I think it was a return. I saw an unboxing earlier today of the ls1219, and it had 2 Styrofoam inserts in the corners that looked quite substantial. There was nothing like that in my box.
