Metric Measuring

Mils here is thousandths of an inch .  [big grin]

Terminology for me is as below. I know that 'mil' is often used for .001" but I don't particularly like it. Three mil garbage bags come to mind. Being in precision machining in the US dictates working in both systems, so separating terminolgy is important.

.001mm= "one micron"
.01mm= "10 microns"
1mm= "one millimeter"
1cm= "10 millimeters"
.001"= "one thou"
.0001"="one tenth"
.00001"= "10 millionths or 10 mils"

I spoke with Tom about this earlier today.  If any of you have been looking for a metric rule with extension, let Tom know and hopefully we can get enough orders together to make it happen.

I'm in, but who's Tom?

I'm Tom.

I got an email back from the CEO this morning after emailing to ask about selling their product here. He essentially asked how much they should send me.

I replied with some questions but I suspect he left for the weekend before he could get back to me.  Monday, I expect to know more...

As soon as you have an idea on pricing I'd be happy to commit and pre-pay if desired. And thanks for doing this for us!

Hi Tom,
Pleased to meet you. I'm the FNG who started this whole mess, hahaha. I'm in for a couple. Let me know the price and I can get you an exact count. What kind of payment form can you handle.

You clearly don't know Tom well yet [big grin] he's "equipped".

If you want to go shopping...  I highly recommend spending some time here. Tom, like other well known dealers on the FOG are class acts.

I can take Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, Discover, cash, PayPal, and maybe other methods.

Unless these rules are crazy expensive, I will stock them to make them easy to buy. Hopefully, I'll know more Monday...

fastcap true 32 is very good.

To everyone who recommended the Fastcap True 32, thank you! I got mine in and it looks like at great rule at an affordable price.

Now if Tom does a deal for folders, then I'm complete.

Using Google Image Search, I was able to find the manufacturer and an English page. May help someone locate it or one of the US dealers to import some?

It's called the Meterex LongLife® All in One G52 / 2m

http://www.meterex.com/item_g52_eng.html

Depending on price I'd be in for one or two. So who's gonna coordinate the group buy?

[poke]

The two types I use almost exclusively nowadays are the Reflecta Meterex and the Hultafors Talmeter. They are very handy, both of them.
Previously I used the 3m (or 300cm/3000mm) Talmeter but Hultafors came out with an improved version where the 6m is pocketable and more sturdy so it is my go to Talmeter for daily use. The 3m is now VERY small and I have one in the shop.

If you are buying ONE Talmeter, get the 6m version. Solid and not too large. If you can get both, you should. There have been a dozen times per year where those extra meters come in handy and it is still pocketable. For small work the 3m is great.
The Reflecta Meterex was something I had to warm up to. After a few months use I really dig it. They are readily available at several dealers over here. Hope you guys get them!

:)
