I am trying to decide which one of the MFS should I buy, one of the reason I am buying it is to route the counter top for the kitchen sink, at least I am trying to justify the investment :) I am also buying for other projects

Thanks

I have both and I use the 400 far more for my needs (mostly for routing hinges).  Truthfully the 700 set may not be big enough for your sink cutout so I wouldn't use that task as your main motivation to buy.  I'd say the 700 set is more versatile but it can be a bit awkward for smaller work.  Carefully look at the types of things you think you'd want to do with the MFS before you decided to buy since these things are inexpensive.

Thanks Bruce

I think the 700 is more worth it and I think they also sell the small profiles, can you please tell me what else you use the MFSs for.

thanks

Brice's guide is an excellent resource, as are Jerry Work's tutorials.

I think your decision depends on your other projects.  The MFS400 is great for small applications, but the MFS700 is more flexible.

For sink cutouts, you can use one of the plunge cut saws for the majority of the cut, and the MFS400 to clean up the corners.

Once you get either, Bruce and Jerry's tutorials will help you understand how versatile the MFS is.
I bought the 700 and then the 400 rails separately. That way you have both. As for what other uses....you can use them for making mortices, dados, circle and arch cuts, of all sizes.
I found that once I learned how to use the system, it didn't get put away for length of an entire workbench project. Every time I started another step in the build, there was another place to use it.

For most of the applications I've found, the MFS 400 works well. However, I quickly added the extension profiles. They add a lot of flexibility and reach.

Sinks, I think, require starting with the MFS 700 and then adding profiles. The 400 set really doesn't get you there for most modern sinks. You will find that even the 700 set will fall short if you don't have extensions when you start using them for big stuff, like modern sinks.

Edit: I was about to post this when Brian posted... I agree with his thoughts.

US:
MFS 400 ($263) + 2x 700mm extension ($195) = $458
MFS 700 ($399) + 2x 200mm extension ($117) = $516

UK:
MFS 400 (ukp 154) + 2x 700mm extension (ukp 118) = ukp 272
MFS 700 (ukp 239) + 2x 200mm extension (ukp 57) = ukp 296

As far as I can tell you'll end up with the same parts.
