MFS Clearance for a Flush Trim Bit

I'm using the MFS as a router templete with a 1/2" flush trim bit.  This requires adjusting the depth setting (OF 1400) very precisely to clear the bottom of the templete while trying to cut the entire face of the the work piece.  I have used a templete guide in the past but flush/trim bits make the calculations, layout and setup much easier and faster.  I'm thinking that a buffer pad placed between the MFS and work piece that had good friction qualities and was a about a 32nd in thickness would provide enough of a gap between the two, to cut the entire face of the work piece without risking nicking the MFS.
  Suggestions ?

Hi Tom,

Brice put together some great information on the MFS,

http://www.festoolusa.com/media/pdf/mfs-users-guide-brice-burrell.pdf

And if you look at pages 18 through 22 it shows his method of using the pattern bit and adding a second bearing to avoid the issues with the MFS slot.  I would think the buffer pad would ok provided all is clamped down well, but the bit still has to travel by the edge of the MFS for a plunge cut and to take appropriate "bites" with the cutter.
