I buy most of my lumber rough cut. The dimensions are sometimes way out of consistant and before running thru surface planer, i must true up one face. One of the methods i use is to clamp the piece to my MFT with the MFT-SP clamps at each end, truest face down. I clamp a couple of 2x3's or 2x4's at each side of the piece i am working on. Clamp a piece of slotted ply wood across the 2x's and run my router back and forth within the limits of the slot. When the area is cleaned up ( afew ridges here & there easilly cleaned up with a block plane) i move the plywood to next section and so on. In looking at the MFS with the guide plate, is it possible or sensible to use that in the same way. With my method, I go by eys at ends of the plywood slot and eventually, the edges of the 2x gets quite chewed up. The guide bushing prevents the plywood from getting damaged and it can be used many times.
Is there a limiting clamp to be inserted each end of the slide plate so i would not tear into the MFS rails? Has anybody else tried this method. I find that if there is a lot of discrepancy to thickness dimensions, this it the quickest way for me to true up one face acurately.
