MFS template sizes?

I'm thinking about pushing the button on a MFS kit and it seems like the smaller one would suit my needs right now.  Would someone who owns either/or both sizes respond with input on the usefullness of both sizes and if you would buy the same size again.  Thanks

I assume you've read MFS:  Notes on the MFS and Jerry Work's manual (I think there's a link in the Notes).

I own both sizes.  Unless you know what size you need, you may as well start off with the MFS400, just because it's cheaper.  Once you get into it, you may want to add a pair of 700 or 1m sections, and some joiners as described in the Notes.

Pairs of 700 sections are available as stock items in Australia and Europe.  They're not listed as a stock item at the moment on the US website, but I was able to encourage Festool USA to bring several into the country--that's how I got my pair.  If those are sold out, they could probably be encouraged to do it again if there's enough interest.

Any copying ring that will clear the bit and isn't taller than an MFS section will work for following the pattern, but you'll need a 30mm copying ring to fit into the circle-cutting parts that come in the MFS400 kit.

One way or another, you'll end up with everything.  ;D

I have the 400 and a set of 1m. That's good for now. I did have one occasion where I wanted an add'l 200 section, but it was a one off, I needed it to extend the template across a wide workpiece just to use a clamp w/ it and not be in the way of the router base. Didn't have the 1m with me at the time. Unless you're specifically doing sink openings or something, I'd start with the 400 and you'll quickly see what add'l pieces suit your needs.
