MFT/3 v Make your own plus fence

The fence is rock solid. You could use bolts through those L brackets to make removal easier, but mine stays there full time, so I didn't worry about that.

How did you get that flip stop to work? were you able to somehow reverse the locking plates?

No, it fits on the fence as is - but, because it's designed for the higher fence, when the stop flips down it hits the table top before it hits the fence - you can't use it as a stop for narrow pieces. (It usually goes with my Incra mitre gauge, on my router table)

He's turned the "flip" around. The racks are on different sides on the Incra Track and Flip fence. Here's the original...

I’ve decided to make my own MFT table. I went and had a look at a MFT/3 the other day and it was smaller than I would have liked.

Looks like Axminster has the PGS mark 2 in stock so I’m looking to order soon.

At the moment I’m thinking of getting:

- PGS mark 2
- 2 x UJK squares (really like the look of these)
- 2 x wedge camp clamps (comes with 6 smaller parf dogs)
- Super parf dogs x 2
- Dust port for UJK
- Chamfer tool for UJK (don’t have a chamfer router bit)
- Rail clips
- the depth bit collar for the drill bit

I’m also looking at adding the trade blitz centrotec locking bit holder and the depth bit holder. Any thoughts on these?

Anything else you can recommend? I’ve looked at the non Festool centrotec bits and there’s nothing that really catches my eye. I’ve got all the drill bits I need, and they don’t sell Robertson bits. Anything I’ve missed?

Also, is there really a need for a fence? Using a few dogs as a fence and clamping a stop block for repeat cuts seems to achieve the same thing as a fence with a flip stop? The only thing I can think of is that if you added a scale to a fence it may be quicker to make cuts?

Cheers

I made a slightly larger workbench with the PGS V1 a few months ago. 140cm x 80cm. A fence with a flag stop is very nice to have on hand for repeatable cuts.
I would recommend you either go big with an Incra track and shop stop or a cheap veritas extrusion with the veritas flip stop. It makes the mft style bench much more capable and fast. I also recommend something to hold the dogs secure from bellow the top for better accuracy on cuts.
