MIDI Hose Issue - Domino Slot Width Issue

Hi,

First time poster, though I have been reading the threads for a few months.  I am a Festool newbie so I don't have a lot to add, but am taking away a lot of good info.

Two issues that I thought I may ask here before dealing directly with Festool.

First, the rubber/plastic hose fitting that connects the tool to the hose of my MIDI Vac has come off.  Clearly the hose is threaded.  Clearly the inside of the attachment thingy is threaded deep inside.  I can not get the hose to catch in the threads and screw on.  Any helpful advice?  I would hate to use warranty service for such a minor issue.

Second, from day one my Domino slot width dial has been loose.  It will vibrate around when the unit is on and actually switch widths on occassion.  Any idea on how to tighten that up or is this another potential warranty issue?

Thanks

Jeff

Check the threads on the hose and the fitting. Obviously, something is out of whack. More than likely, you could probably just clean up the threads and get it to go back on. Mine came off like yours did, and there was actually a small staple that was stuck in the threads. I removed the staple and then use a little bit a yellow glue in the threads. The fitting hasn't budged in about 6 months now.

With the dial on your Domino, I'd send that back to Festool. There was a post here not that long ago that stated that Festool wants people to send that tool back instead of fixing it themselves. At the very least, I'd call customer service and talk it over with them. I know that would be a real PITA if my dial kept moving around like that. Fortunately, mine is fine though.

Jeff,

Hold the hose tightly and reverse thread the ring.

hello jeff
look at the end of the hose where it goes into the rotating adapter and you will see two small tabs, one on each side of the retaining ring. use a small screwdriver or even a key and depress these slots to release it and then the inner cuff should  slide out.screw it back on tight.  then slip the end back in the adapter  line up the two tabs on the retainer  and make sure they snap back in their slots. sometimes the inner cuff comes lose if there is tension on the hose, like when you are cleaning with it.  if the hose cannot rotate freely it will loosen up inside the adapter, this is normal , and a simple fix. If it seems to happen a lot and is new return it for a replacement.
on the domino check to see if your cutter bit is secured on tight. if it is and it still making wrong size slots contact festool. you should not have to do alignments on new tools. this issue has been discussed before.  You are only supposed to change widths with the tool running or you could risk damaging the gears. Since you say this is a new tool I would suggest returning it for repacement.

Bob, I did try reverse screwing the thing on there.  It looks like it would fit so perfectly, but it just will not grab the thread.  Hopefully Bills suggestion will work.

Bill, I will check that out.  I saw the tabs you are referring to.  I will attempt that.

On the Domino, the cutters are always tightly installed.  I have never had it jump up in widths, it always jumps down.  I will have the machine on and while using it it will jump down from middle setting to tight setting.  This happens particularly when using it on tougher wood or end grain plunges.  It will likely need to be serviced by Festool.

Thanks guys!

Jeff,

I thought that you had already disconnected the inner cuff.  Yes, the rubber adapter can come loose once in a while, but as Bill said, it is an easy fix, you do it once and the second time, if it happens, takes seconds to correct. I would call the service department trgarding bthe Domino.
