Miter saw choices

I dunno what kind of work you're doing, Drich, but if it's mainly construction-type work, you
may want to check out the Mafell line of KSS saws. It's not the saw for furniture making, but for me the KSS 400 has replaced the CMS for about 2/3 of the things i work with..
Btw. I didn't mean to attack you personally in the last Kapex discussion. Apologies for that.
 
I'm just a hobbyist the does everything from building some furniture to framing out a garage and home maintenance. Just want a good saw.
 
The European version of the Bosch glide saw comes with a laser. Dunno why North America got scrooged.

I have the Bosch saw with the Kapex shroud as well, its very capable and dust collection is great. I'll take a video if I remember. It stays on the stand, so the weight isn't a big bother for me.
 
Agree with comments above on the Bosch. It is heavy to move up stairs but the stand is very nice and stable. Only slider I absolutely hate is the rigid slider. I had one before the Bosch. It was terrible dealing with cuts when cutting compound miters. When plugging the head move and I could not get accurate cuts.
 
I have a Bosch 5312 which is a 12" slider, that I got for $200+tax. Bosch stand was another $150+tax. The saw is very heavy, so the roller stand works great for moving it around. The stand is fairly steady, and the reviews on it are pretty accurate. If you are just using the saw around your house, you can't go wrong with a Bosch saw and stand combo. If I want to move mine I use a trailer, or just pick it up and heft it off of the stand.

Bosch's can easily have an Oshlun laser added to them. Heck you can add a laser to a circular saw, should you so desire. Only on the left side of the saw though.http://www.amazon.com/Oshlun-LG-M01-Miter-Portable-Laser/dp/B002PMV4UG

Dust collection is horrible on the Bosch, but gets 10X better by adding a piece of flexible material (I used rubber boat material), or a brush mounted behind the blade. One of those little tents like FastCap sells will catch the remainder. Can't remember which one, but one tent has a hole for the vacuum hose.

Laserkerf.com. Great guy good product. I highly recommend the product. Better than many factory lasers. In fact if has a laser for your saw just get it !
 
Anyone try the new saw from Bosch cm12sd. It's the 5312 replacement. Looks like could be good. Simpler than the glides in terms of bevel set up.

Not sure how going from front controls to rear controls would be considered easier? Maybe cheaper to manufacturer, and therefore "improved", according the manufacturer. I haven't used one, so I am just guessing.
 
I always found the Bosch upfront controls a bit gimmicky along with the adjustable (breakable grip). The bevel lever is stiff requires 2 hands and bevel lock even in the manual says its tight when it settles 1/2 a degree. This new system has got simple bevel stops(adjusting the bevel stops on the older bosches  can be a bear) and a simple side cam lock with a large bevel scale. Looks good to me plus it's got the large vertical capacity like the dewalt. I may have to give this saw a try out.
 
Thanks for the reply's. Why would bosch make the saw both ways? Seems kind of strange if the glide saw is the latest thing to keep the old style around. Pretty sure I'll go with the 10" version unless another 10 inch is way better. The dewalt looks good and the mikta looks ok also. I guess it a ford , chevy , dodge thing.
 
Nice to see someone from my neck of the woods.

I have the Milwaukee 6955 12" sliding miter saw.  It is a wonderful saw.  One of it's most special features is an integrated dust distribution system that ensures an even cloud of sawdust is scattered and deposited on every horizontal surface within a 20' radius of the saw, even with the vacuum going full blast.

Other than dust collection so horrible it is seriously making me consider spending $1400 on a Kapex, it is a great saw. 

I also have an older Dewalt 708 fixed 12" miter.  It does way better with the dust collection over the Milwaukee, but that is an extraordinarily low bar to limbo under.

After watching tons of video's on you tube it's down to the bosch glide 10" of the makita 1016L. Of these 2 which do you fell is a better saw and why?
 
I have the Makita LS1016L.  It's probably on par with JohnnyEgo's Milwaukee in terms of dust distribution.  My solution is that I never use it indoors. Which can make for some interesting experiences when it's 10 degrees outside.

I like it quite a bit, and it seems to be more than powerful enough for my needs, which are generally not very demanding.

 
I've got a 12" Bosch dual bevel non slider.  Cuts terrific miters - no slide mechanism to introduce inaccuracies.  Beveling's a trial and error operation. This saw is very heavy and not a good choice if you want portability .  For dust control I use a Rousseau dust hood with a dedicated vac.  The hood makes the saw even less portable but it's greatly reduced the dust. 
 
That's odd about the Milwaukee having poor dust control. I found it to have good if not excellent dust control and surprisingly good with just the bag.
 
If I were to get a 10" saw I think I would get a hitachi. If I was dead set on a Bosch I wouldn't even consider the 10" and would jump up to the 12".
