The wifey wanted a planter box and I happen to have some 8/4 lying around. Inspiration from Maloof and Jory Brigham stuff

Top box all glued up

That turned out very nice- I'm sure she'll love it!

Great job on both the design and the build.

Gerald

Nice job...nice design.  [big grin]  I especially like the bottom relief on each leg.

Looks awesome! I better not show that to my wife... lol

Did you use mortise and tennon for the joints?
I'm guessing hand carving/shaping on the legs?
That's something I need to learn.  So far, all my frames are square.  Unless it's something I can throw on the lathe.

[member=65755]jarbroen[/member] I used 8-10mm dominos for all joints. The center column three way joint is only dominoed to the large center leg so it can be assembled.

Legs were roughed and final machined with templates and the used a 3/4 round over to shape. Basically I made one leg template, copied it, then cut the second one where all my joints were. After joining/glue up, I used the original template to route out the final shape. I don’t have a pic of the original template but here are some of the rough layout I did. Hopefully you can see how the pieces go together.

Nicely done.  It’s too beautiful to put dirt and water in...

Thanks for showing more of your process!
I have plenty of 12mm BB scrap laying around, looks like that's a good template material.  Just have to be good enough to get at least one freehand looking good. :)

[member=65755]jarbroen[/member]  yes that would work better than the 5mm stuff I used. I basically drew the planter box full scale on the plywood then cut it up and hand shaped it to make the master templates, then transferred it to make a second so I could cut it up for the layout pieces.
