My clamping table, by request

I had a request to post plans for my clamping table, but instead of plans (um, don't have em  ;)) I thought an explanation might be more helpful... My goal was to be able to clamp the widest variety of projects imaginable.  I'm pretty happy with it.

The table is 60'' long and 24" wide.  The holes are 1" in diameter.  Sorry.  You may choose to go 3/4"... but your f-clamps won't fit through the holes.  Just a hair to big  :'( but the ability to clamp flat to the table was a deal breaker.  I like to grind the nub off the end of my f-clamps so I can remove the screw end to get them through the holes in the bench.

The hole locations are as follows:  Starting from the center and working outward in both directions, the holes are in 3" increments starting at 11, then 14, 17, 20, 23 and 26.

That allows me to use bench dogs to flatten my cauls in 6 inch increments, while leaving the dogs 1" short of the end of each caul (the holes wind up at 22" centers for the 24" cauls, 34" centers for the 36" cauls and 46 inch centers for the 48" cauls, plus a hole behind each for clamping down flat.

The center set of holes I chose only to do the ones for clamping the cauls flat... as I would never use the middle for a glue up.  If it were a long skinny glue up I sould would either side,  In fact I would probably have more than one to do, so I could do (and have done) 2 at a time.

Plus one more hole at the end for clamping flat to the bench.

My dogs are oak dowels from the borg with a band saw kerf in the bottom.  Simple, cheap and works great.

I hope you find this helpful.

Happy clamping.

Awesome, I like my bowclamps as well. Thanks Craig. Maybe you can make the tops for sale?  [smile]

Another BowClamp lover here. If I made the table - which I love - I would probably go with 30" wide for adding solid wood to plywood on deep cabinets. Yes - I agree that this is a potential item to market and sell. Nice job!!
