My OF1010-EBQ brake fails

A couple of weeks ago I replaced my (stolen) EBQ-1010 by a 'new' one that I bought through our local 'Ebay'. It was very well cared, and had no use-marks at all. Everything looked new. It came with the LR32-80 rail, the one without the outer T-track. The owner told me he had used it once, to trim a door, thinking that owning good tools is never a waste of money. He never found further use for it, to my luck.

It worked fine, until today. Since this week I'm routing some 1700 mortises (and some 1700 tenons as well) in MDF, for a modular box-system I worked out to enable my wife to transport her fragile artwork in. Today the E-brake seems to have started its own business. It will engage appr. 2 out of 10 times, for the rest of the times the router will spin down smoothly without braking.

I turned up and down the speed dial many times, as it seems that advice is given here more often when tools behave weird, but no luck.

Any further suggestions?

Best, CJ'60.

A similar thing happened to my OF1400 after approx. 2 years of reasonable use. The brake became intermittent. I used it as it was for a couple of weeks, as I needed it to finish some jobs. Once I got to the point where I didn't need it for a couple of days, I reported the problem to Festool who repaired it under warranty (it needed a new speed control board, I think).

Is it still under warranty? If so, Festool will repair it FOC.

Same here. I have to finish this hobby project first, my wife needs the boxes by Wednesday. RPM of the OF1010 is reacting good at turning the dial. The brake is nice to have, but without it it works ok. Today it seemed to work ok. let's see what it does tomorrow.

I'm afraid not. I bought it second handed, and it was collecting dust in the sellers garage for quite some time... So, if it remains intermittent, I might decide to live with it. I could repair the type-number, and erase the 'B' from it. ;D

Thanks for your reply,

I'm not sure how Festool does the braking operation but on other tools I've experienced braking problems due to worn brushes and dirty armatures. Some designs use the motors back EMF to brake the motor on power down. You might check the the brushes, how well they're seated and how clean the armature is.
