I got so tired of the guide stops for my OF1400 banging around loose in the OF's systainer, and I had no where to put my LR-32 plate and OF-FH routing guide or a decent way of storing and transporting of often used cutters to the job. I had to do something. Oh... I also made a 5mm snap in base so I could toss that stupid support foot which that and its knob always seem to get in the way when laying the router on its side to change cutters.

It all fits into a Sys-3. The bottom is a piece of 1/2 baltic birch notched so the LR32 plate can fit. The bit holders are from Lee Valley. I'm not sure but I think they have them for 8mm shanks as well.

I had exactly the same problems with my 1010 and 1400 !

Great idea and very good implementation
Also a good idea for a contest category, i.e work organizers: sysport, boom arm, thingstainer, ...

Hi,

Good idea.   I have been working on a couple of systainer inserts for some things too.  One of the things that I find makes customising Systainers easier is that the sides are nearly perpendicular to the bottom. Unlike most of the plastic boxes and tool boxes commonly available in the US. Most of them have sloping sides and it makes it more difficult to arrange things.

Is the material on the bottom of the router base plate laminate?

Hi, Paul

Very nice. I think you could be designing these for Tanos.  More food for thought on mine.  I like the mini Systainer use. What is in the wood compartment  or is it a secret stash ? :)

Nice work, Eiji.

At first I thought that the screws shown in the last pic of your first post could possibly scratch something--it was hard to tell from the picture whether they were in grooves or on top of "tongues".  The tongues made no sense, so I checked a Systainer.  Yes, the screws are in grooves neatly and safely out of the way.  Nice detailing.

It would have been possible to hold the bottom plate with an adhesive, but then it wouldn't be easily removable as you refine your design.

Yes, the bit holders are available from Lee Valley in 1/4 inch, 8mm, and 1/2 inch.

There are a couple of block planes and other small items in the wood drawer, and the drawer has a lining on the bottom.

Nice job!

Here is a couple of pictures of a hand tool insert I made about 4 years back.

Paul

Paul I would purchase one of those hand tool inserts if they were for sale!
