Hi all

I am new so please be kind. I have received as a Christmas present a 1010 Router. I am however having difficulty with the collet and was wondering what I am doing wrong and if anyone can help me. I have included some photos. I can not get the steel tube out of the spindle, it seems locked in. Can anyone help me after looking at the photos

Cheers

recent thread on this same thing, can't really remember, but is has to do with a button that causes it to reverse that rachtet

there is No ratchet on the of1010 looks like the nut has been tightened without a bit in the collet,I would gently tap it with a malable hammer or drift side ways to loosen it,or a pair of grips taking care not to chew up the colet failing that take it back and get it swaped out..

looking at your last photo you can see the collet is pinched

1) tap with soft hammer.
2) drift pin into shaft. Using hole that the shaft lock enters for bit changing.
3) nail set with long tapered shaft into collet, to expand opening..
4) I was then able to insert a bit into shaft and remove bit and collet.

I had the same problem last night and was surprised I hadn't seen it mentioned before. Earlier poster was exactly right in my case. I had mistakenly put a 1/4 bit into a 8mm collet and that resulted  in a "over tightened" collet.

Let us know how this comes out.  [big grin]

I hope your Saturday night included some drinking, otherwise, I don't know how you'd manage that. [poke] [big grin] [big grin]  The above comment is meant as a little good nature ribbing.

Thanks Guys for all the responses I will have a go tomorrow at your suggestions.

In step 2 the drift pin should be a size that will slip below the collet, mine could be clearly seen in the hole. Then just pry upward

I'll have you and other Fogger's know I need no help screwing up a project, I can do it completely unaided. On the same project and the same evening I cut a 10 1/2 drawer front out of a 20" board. I then added some inlay and finally edge treatment using multiple bits. Can you guess the ending?  I had picked up the 9 1/2 piece to do all the work on.

Just so you don't think you're alone, I've done something quite similar.
