New Fein SuperCut

Charlie: That would make you a frequent user for sure!
In that case sourcing long lasting blades "on the cheap" is a good idea. I can't remember the brand but maybe "Imperial Blades"? Think they used to make Supercut compatible blades that lasted quite long. The universal bimetal blades. I went through a few of them during a larger renovation and they were mid-price and lasted at least as long as the Fein original universal blades.

I hoarded blades during a period when I did run through 2-3 a week and bought some bulk whenever they showed up. One time I scored 50 Fein Supercut blades for $120. And next week another 25 original blades. Funny enough that the period where I was wearing out blades every week petered out and I was left with a grand total of 100+ blades. At the moment I still have too many to count.  [big grin] [unsure]

Why is tgere not a backward compatibility adapter so old type blades can be used in the newer machines? Lots of us have many old type of blades and they are available cheaply in bulk from China (they do the job ) . If an adaptor was availsble then I would upgrade from my multimaster to a new low vibration supercut.

Hmm, are you sure there is no adapter?

I think the compatibility down range is there to the "old" OIS blades. I can check this afternoon.

I cannot find an adapter for backward compatibility. Please do check.

I see Metabo have a new(?) Multitool that has led lights and what looks like (not sure) the new fein bosch starlock type of blade fixing and old style blade fixing. I only saw the video earlier so I msy be incorrect with my observations.

No, there is no adapter to allow you to use old style Fein blades (or other manuf.) on the new Starlock system.  [sad]

But, that was the entire point of the new platform.  Fein was losing (or at last not gaining) sales because everyone and their brother is now selling tools and blades.  So, they cooked up this new blade design to wean folks of knockoff blades and back to buying their blades.

Somehow, they were able to convince Bosch to go along for the ride with them.

And of course, their new blades are backwards compatible.  ::)

And..............it'll just be a matter of time before the knockoff guys produce blades for starlock.

Ah, yes, the BLADES on Starlock are backwards compatible with the OIS machines.
Now I remember...

I am not sure on the Starlock PLUS but the Starlock MAX are not backwards compatible from what I gather.

PLUS blades are compatible on Fein's last generation tools, but I'm pretty sure they won't work on other makes.

MAX blades only work on the new platform.

Does this still use the old Bolt method to hold the blade?    so its not exactly "quick" .My dewalt is far quicker to swap blades and you wont lose the bolt !

LJD: no, no bolts. You just insert the blade under the machine with the lever open and then close the lever and the blade snaps firmly in place. Very solid. No loose bolts to be dropped and lost.

On my "old" Quick in Supercut I still have to keep track of the connecting bolt - though it isn't a biggie with the quick change. I could lose it though.

I am using that Metabo 18V multicutter which is an OIS machine - it has an adapter for Supercut/Vecturo blades which is very simple and does the job well. Since I have mostly Supercut blades I am using them on the Metabo.

I was surprised to find that they shipped the machine with an adapter for Supercut blades - but it is very welcome indeed.  The adapter does not fit other machines AFAIK though.

The Metabo machine is a very good multicutter. The on/off switch is VERY stiff but it might have to do with the vibration of the tool (keeping it from accidentally shutting off). The vibration level is not too bad.
