NEW! Festool HK/HKC 55 Saws, DWC 18 Screw Gun & SysLite DUO - Preorder Now!

Hk55 and hkc look like toys. No interest. The 85 looks like the real deal. If the router table can be sold here sans the of2200 kit why not the 85 sans the dado.

They have the "EB" designate, which should mean there's a brake. [member=57769]TylerC[/member] can you confirm?

The HKC has an electric brake. The HK does not.

I checked the video again. The HK did run on a while.
The JKC stopped pretty quickly but the guy moved it before the blade stopped so it rubbed against the wood.

What is the reasoning to make the HK saws non-plunge?
The fact that the HH has no brake and does not retract seems like a big step back.

You can plunge with the HK/HKC, it's just not as intuitive and easy as it is with the TS saws.

My point is that the blade remains fully exposed (and spinning on the HK saw) until the FSK guide rail fully retracts.

The carpenter in the video hasn't yet learned to lift the HK/FSK off the work asap.

It sorta bothers me that the saw can't cut a 45° bevel at 1 1/2 inches.  It's supposed to be a construction saw, but it can't cut a 2x4 on a bevel.  Really a bummer.

Also the spring that brings the saw back on the rail appears to be a bungy cord.  Not sure what the life span will be.

The hk  saws do plunge very similarly to the ts saws except that the pivot is from the front of the saw. Setting depth is very easy wether in the locked position or in plunge mode.

One option is just to cut with it off the rail, which provides the depth of cut necessary to perform this cut. It takes seconds to remove it from the rail, make the cut and reattach it.

We do have a 162mm, 48-tooth, 1.8mm kerf blade from another manufacturer versus the stock 160mm. It's possible that blade could solve the 45° bevel in 2x lumber. Maybe we can give it a try if there's an interest. My concern would be the riving knife with the larger diameter.

I'm sure Festool will have the bungee as a spare part should it need to be replaced. Our European friends can probably comment on its durability / longevity.

Just run it for a few seconds, it'll shave that riving knife right down :-)

Ah, yes, I should have thought of that! [blink] Looks like we have a volunteer to try it out!  [popcorn] Let us know how that goes, [member=46908]Mort[/member]. [big grin]

Just looking at the photos, I think there's plenty of clearance. But, I'd want to stick the blade on there and check it out before giving a definitive answer on whether it would work.

The other consideration is the tooth count. The 162mm is 48-tooth versus 18-tooth that comes with the HK/HKC. Obviously, a balance between speed and quality of cut.

I want a TSC saw that works with the FSK track.

Does the Mafell plunge cut track saw work with the Mafell FSK type track or is the suitable Mafell saw also a simple sidewinder?

If the Mafell is also a sidewinder is there some reason the plunge cut saw is not suitable for use with the recoil track?

You don't want to be plunging using a recoil track. Use a standard track for that, which all daed of this nature are compatible with

Although you can't use KSS guide rail (their FSK kind of track) with Maffel's MT55 plunge saw, Mafell has angle fence that can be used the way you described with all saws that are compatible with their regular rail system - MT55 included.

In case if you need longer track than just angle fence, you just can extend the length with regular guide rail.

Below is the video that shows that working with KSS400 saw:
