The plunge cut on a TS operates on a spring loaded pivot and you have to plunge to engage the blade on every cut. The HKC operates like a sidewinder type saw where the depth is typically set before engaging the saw. It's depth is set on the back and is not spring loaded. You can plunge with this saw, but it is a different control and the blade does not retract after the cut.
