NEW: Festool SYSLITE LED accu lamp

Thanks for sharing the video Shane.

The syslite looks very good.

Yeah, thanks Shane. [thumbs up]  I sure could use one these now.  It's still dark for about half hour when I get to work these days.

I want it....  and I want it now!  Doing remodeling work I have to work in rooms with no light fixtures after tearing everything out in prep for plumbing/electrical work and drywall/paint.  I have a tripod unit that has 2 13watt CFL's and it puts out good light but it's always in the darn way.  Bathrooms in general don't have a lot of extra space for big lights taking up precious floor space.  I refuse to use the quartz units as they get way too hot, which make them slightly dangerous and takes a while to cool down before being able to put them away.  This thing could work out really well for what I do.

Hey that video is Timtool , a member here!!!

Timtool give us your opinion of this light?

Had a lot of fun with one of these at the Toolfest open day last weekend what a great bit of kit and waterproof as well Well I don't think it would work very well in the bath but as described "working in the rain" would be a much brighter experience !!
Sadly the UK price at £138  $210 dulled my enthusiasm, but it does come in a nice Festool bag !

Yup it's my video, i won the syslite for taking part in a festool contest

I got it for free and it's not something i would have bought, but i am very pleased to have it anyway.
As you can see on the video it lights extremely well, not just for in dark cramped spots, but also works to lit entire rooms.
And all that in a relatively compact case that feels very robust, the front is soft rubber and the casing is partly metal.

If there ever is a power cut, i will go and get the syslite for the house. and i have been using it today to work on and under my truck. sure beats those mechanics LED tubes.

While this light is pricey, it is not really that expensive compared to commercial lights. I have purchased several plug-in type lights that are outdoor rated that cost more than what this one seems to be marketed at. I could really use a quality weatherproof battery operated light and hope this one gets to the US soon.

Plus, no heat like halogens (mine get pretty toasty pretty quick) and the bulbs are not going to shatter or like with non-LEDs break the filament if it's dropped. It has it's own internal battery or can run off one of our drill batteries. It has an integrated hook. Each side is a different angle so the throw of the light on a surface is different depending on which side it's sitting on. It includes a car adapter for charging. As far as lights go, this thing is pretty killer.

I know this is not exactly on topic, but at the new place I just replaced all my bulbs with the newer type(ugly?) bulbs). I had no idea but in the new house I went though 72 bulbs and this is only for interior built in fixtures in the main house, not lamps of any kind or the bathroom vanities which take another 36 bulbs.I could not bring myself to put the ugly bulbs on(above the mirrors) those, yet.! I have little halogens above the bar I like so I left those alone as well.

When I figured the power difference of replacing all these 75 watt bulbs with 13 watt bulbs that produce near the same amount of light(light I like better I may add) I was blow away! One ceiling fan with 5 bulbs was taking (just for lights not fan) 375 watts, now I get the same amount of better light only using  65 watts! At first I thought man what could these darn new ugly bulbs save me, well at the old house not that much, but at the new house a crap load!

With  my kids always leaving on all the lights I suspect I will actually see a noticeable difference on the next electric bills overall power use. I guess it will not matter because I am sure the power company will again increase its prices to compensate for my savings soon enough. Still, I was amazed at the difference and never realized it.

Now some will say, yeah but the initial cost of the bulbs is an issue. Not so! I got these new bulbs for 33 cents(usually 5.00 for a 3 pack) on sale for 99 cents a 3 pack  at Menards and they last (or so they say)  up to 9 years. I will be happy if they last 1 or 2! This price is the only reason I purchased them and I am glad I did. I never really sat down and figured how much power my family uses, its a lot!

Oh and the old type bulbs are not on their way out as many believe. They are actually coming back in a more efficient version, this is older from 2009 I think:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/06/business/energy-environment/06bulbs.html?pagewanted=all

If the price ever gets reasonable I think the LED bulbs will be the way to go. The CFL lights are fine for fixtures that are on a lot. The CFL bulbs sure do not last very long if not turned on for at least 15 minutes at a time. I have tried many different CFL bulbs and so far am losing money. Don't bother buying the 3-way CFL bulbs as they have very short life and are way too expensive in my experience.

Maybe a SysLite in every room. :)

Oh the LED will come down, they already are. Now down to 33 cents each so workable for the home is going to take a bit. At Menards the better old bulbs are well over 33 cents each so right now I believe if you look it will be the same cost already. Just 6 months ago these same bulbs were 3 dollars each, now that's a loser, but at 33 cents I can't lose.  My wife said our Menards will actually replace these things if they burn out on me in the first 3 months and so will Wal Mart. Wal Mart actually takes anything back for 90 days, at least our store does.

I dont know it it was just first or second generation CFL's but CFL bulbs should last about 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs o something is up at your home. I will keep a look out I have enough of them. At 2.00 to 3.00 each the bulbs would pay for themselves in 5 to 6 months, at 33 cents they pay for themselves immediately  as that is the same cost as a regular bulb.

This is the future Led NOW 119.00 EACH, CFL's are an in between tech until these go down in cost:

CFL bulbs are a pain to dispose of,  as they contain mercury. If you break a CFl bulb on your carpet the recommendation is to cut the carpet out a throw it a way.  And never never use a vacuum to clean up a broken CFL bulb or you will blow all the mercury in to the air.

I can see years in the feature , after millions of these CFL are on landfill, we will look at the old forgotten incandescent bulbs as more eco friendly.

This i why I try to buy all LED bulbs now.

You got a link to that LED bulb??    We have been looking and trying out LED's  about a year ago  they were around £80 each and they where rubbish!  So gave up in the end!  But now LEDS have improved alot since  we like to try and look around and try some more modern u LED bulbs!  And the one you picture looks like it  will be good!

CREE makes about the best led's, but since the japanese disaster, there has been a lot of price fluctuations
on all sorts of items......

I was just at a local big box store (Menards) and they have LED now for as cheap as 12.99 per bulb, the average is a bit over 22.00 with the larger once costing about 45.00 -65.00.

I suspect in 2 years or less they will be the price of the cfl's.

Here are some links for you jmbfestool, maybe UK Amazon has these, we get free shipping no tax:

The LED's are going to take over even sooner than I anticipated.

I owned an expensive Surefire light a few years ago, it was a very poplar model.  I ended up selling it two and half years later for more than I paid for it new.
