New Guide Rail - out of the box - Splinterguard loose

I just opened up my new Guide Rail (LR32 rail) only to find it's already got the splinterguard coming loose at both ends.  Festool needs to improve this.  I now have three rails coming loose, but I sure didn't expect it out of the box!

I know it's just a little thing, but as much money as I have spent...

That is just how the clear splinter guards are. They have been that way for years.
You will just have to live with it or buy a replacement from one of the other companies that sell guide rails.

do other companies make better splinter guards?

If you have a Festool product and it doesn't meet your expectations, give us a buzz and let us have the opportunity to fix it please.  [wink]

dmc123, PM sent right after you posted.

I did that years ago.
Why do you think I posted what I did?

Hopefully you got some interaction years ago.   In current time, they only asking to know about a problem so that they know that this is a problem so that they can try to assist.

Don't get me wrong here - this is an outstanding product and there are no worries - Festool makes things right.

I've got a 3000 rail, and two 1400 rails, and two smaller rails on my two MFT 1080s and I can understand how those peel off over time - it's a consumable product.  My only disappointment is the new one.  I probably have $5000+ of Festool products, and this little strip is probably the only thing wrong and I've never had anything break...

LET THEM KNOW!  Sorry for shouting, but sometimes people are quiet or they rely on forums to try and get their message across.  A telephone call, an email, or other correspondence directly with the manufacturer can help.  Please let them know directly.

Peter,

Owners have been letting Festool know since the clear strip came out that there is a problem. It is still a problem as this thread & linked thread clearly show.
Out of the 15 rails I have, 8 still have the black splinter strip that came on them when they were new, The 7 that had clear strips had to have the clear strips replaced because they fell off.
I let Festool know back when they first started selling the clear strip.

Now tell me again how this is my problem!!!!

I didn't say that it was a problem of your making.  I was just suggesting to you and every other reader out there that if they have an issue, or even a perceived issue, that it might be an effective way to cure or effect a cure if they let Festool know directly about their situation.  It can be more effective than just posting on a forum.  A post here can be overlooked because of the volume.  Emails and telephone calls are harder to overlook for a company that sells and services products.  That's all.

I've had the black ones peel.  I have had the clear ones peel.  I have had the black ones where replacements wouldn't stick because the adhesive had dried out while in the box.  I am not immune.

Last in line...

I too prefer the black strips to the clear.

Having had both, the clear is no where near as good as the black, and keeps peeling.

I also prefer the black for alignment.

Funny..  I have 2 x guide rails and clear plastic strips where pretty much the same as you described.  I used hot glue too firm one up about a month after I bought it .. lol  I figured it was my fault .. lol

I also had the clear coming off at the ends.
I applied a little super glue and it's been holding since.

My apologies to anyone who has received a guide rail with a splinterguard that's unattached. In some cases, you may be able to reapply it with some pressure and it stays. If that's not the case, please contact us. If you don't get an acceptable resolution, feel free to reach out to me personally, your friendly FOG ambassador. I'll always do my best to make sure our customers have products that meet their expectations.

Same here --

I have the longest guide rail that Festool makes and the clear rubber strip has been coming off at the ends since the day I bought it (it came with the clear strip, not the black one).

Will give the super glue fix a try.  I sure miss the black strips!  I've had black strips on my shorter rails for years and they have never come loose.  Easier to see if you're on your cut line with the black strips, too.
