New tool bag from occidental leather

i did the same so i have 1 in each hand and that way the weight is equal on my back

Festools are expensive but quality, service, etc make them a worthwhile investment.

There are a lot of non Festool owners that would disagree with you. And just as many non Festool owners who earn a decent living doing some kind of woodworking. For them, they'd say you've wasted money. And for them, they'd be right. It's all a matter of perspective.

It is organized and works for me. The Occidental Tool Bag does look good but a hell of a price and it wouldn't suit my "system".

Possibly to you, but consider other types of woodworking or construction disciplines and how a large tool bag could be used. Quality construction almost always commands a higher price. And then you get into organization, suitability, ease of use and warranty availability. Several hundred dollars for something that is going to work as advertised, isn't going to break down as easily and actually save you time and effort, well, it sounds like a good deal to me.

I like both...but man the price....but if it lasts and works it is worth it... I own Festool how much can I say about price....LOL

Both bags are great, I just want one on wheels with an extendable handle to save my back.

As far as I'm concerned, to each his own.  Your money, do with it what you want.  We can think what we want about how people spend their money, but we should keep the comments about that part to ourselves.  No need for it and it usually just gets ugly.

I have a couple of the Veto XXL bags and a XL bag that I've had for maybe 8 years.  They're not perfect, they are better than other regular tool bags I had.  The zippers, mainly the pulls have broken on me from me being rough with them.  Some snaps have come off of the XXL bags which I wasn't to thrilled with.  I contacted the company and they were only willing to replace one bag for me.  I haven't done it yet since I use them constantly, it's hard parting with even one for a short period.  I think I actually need a third XXL.  Too many tools!

I've had Occidental Leather's products since I started in the construction field.  My first belt was a crummy Sears that I couldn't wait to return the next day.  Bought the all leather Occi tool belt (I think 5080), a heavy sucker, but it's held up perfectly and I have it to this day.  A short time after buying that belt, I also bought the Occidental Lights tool belt (leather and green material).  It's a couple of pounds lighter so I usually use that belt.  Also has held up all these years.  I got the suspension unit later on and found what a difference it actually made on my lower back and waist, giving me a longer, more comfortable work day.

Occi's products are expensive, then and now, they're made by hand, by Americans, they hold up great, they're thoughtfully designed and I don't mind INVESTING in their products for my career.  While I'm not coming up with the amount of cash necessary to buy the Doctor Bag anytime soon, I understand what went into the construction of that bag making it cost that much.  Maybe if they sell more, the price will come down, who knows?

Hey if its good enough for Gary then its good enough for me....  and I have the occidental leather tool belt I also bought 8 years ago and wore a bit, but then switched to the oxy lights also the green ones... and they are really nice bags and hold up very well.

Since bjornlader and blakenlader pants came out I hardly ever wear a tool belt any more just fill up the pants with what I need, and that is just perfect.

but I agree about spending money on what I want and believe me I have spent tons on money over the last 12 years on tools that I use and also don't use that I though I would.

sorta crazy but I love buying tools.

will be using the bag this week on several custom jobs I am doing so I will see how it works out for me, and will advise

you know what that is true.  my sister back on 2005 went out and bought a gucci purse for $1,850  just cuz she wanted one.  how stupid was that.  oh well I guess it runs in the family !!!  lol

Very nice Kreg i really like seeing ways of organizing all that little stuff that i can waste alot of time trying to find in my truck. The time i have wasted looking for that little tool on the job and i know i have it somewhere. I would hate to add up what that has cost me in a years time. Thanks for the review.

From my personal experience owning the less goofy looking Blaklader pants for over a year now, I don't like the pockets on the pants because I don't think there's as much protection from sharp objects compared to a tool belt.  It's harder to get stuff out of the pockets when you have a mix of things in there.  The tighter pockets take longer to do nail or fastener change overs.  It doesn't have as much storage as my Occi belts.  And last one, how do you go out to the store or out for lunch with all that stuff in your pants??  [big grin]

Nice bag Kreg, I'd have one too if I were single LOL  I do have Occi belt and they are very nice. Had mine for about 12 or 13 yrs and holds up well. business ever gets goin strong again maybe one for me, right now sites on some more Festools.

One really nice feature of the Doctor bag are the end handles so you can carry it with both hands.  Slinging my Veto bag one handed is awkward sometimes, especially lifting it up on a shelf and it is not really that easy to get both hands on it.  That bag has the convenience of the open tote Veto bags with the security/protection of the zip up ones.

As for dissing Kreg about his purchases that is pretty funny coming from a bunch of tool pansies.  I don't see myself getting a Doctor bag, but it makes a lot more sense than a big stack of systainers or 2-3 veto bags.

I mean common....how many of you have dropped 5 bills just to have a new sander that you might use a couple times a week if you are lucky.  How many of you were set to spend 5 bills on the Carvex and base kit eh?  We are talking about the one thing that Kreg will take on every job until he retires or someone makes a nicer bag.  $495 is really not that expensive these days....Heck Darcy that's only what about 4 tanks of gas for your Suburban right?

Oh please - $500 for a bag with some pockets is expensive, no matter how you try to slice it.

Sure it's nice, yes it's up to whomever to spend their own money - but don't try to make it out as a great value or a wise purchase.

It's an expensive luxury.  No more, no less.  If that's how you want to spend the green, more power to you, but no need to convince us.

And carrying handtools in Systainers is just as damn silly.

Why do you say that?  I find that carrying handtools in a systainer works very well for me.  It keeps them well organized and the systainer (a sys 5 with custom-built tools trays) merges in well with the power tools that I am carrying to a jobsite.
