New Tool Vecturo

I'll let you in on a little secret, the wall Peter built was a model, not a real life wall but something to demonstrate what this saw does, and I will let you into another secret, he hasn't bought one, why you may ask, I'll tell you, in real life those situations he demonstrated don't exist, and on the very very rare occasions you come across something similar can you justify €800 just because it comes in a systainer.

And yes I can cut plywood with a drill, I can cut copper pipe with a router and I can take off the base of a router because the one I would use does not come in a systainer.

I would rather you speak to me before telling people what you think I may have or be planning to do.

Yes, of course that wall was fabricated, everybody could see that but the actions that I demonstrated were real life situations that I have gone through on many occasions. I spoke to two friends, one a professional plumber and the other an electrician and they agreed that they use their (rather rubbish) machines for the sort of tasks that I demonstrated. I had planned to film my plumber friend but at the last minute the lady whose house he was working in said no.

As for using a Dremel for anything serious - not the sort of thing many professionals will have as their go-to tool.

Alex,

Very sorry if you are reading my comments as trolling, they are not, they are just opinions of mine put to you as banter and to generate discussion about tools and their uses.

I have enclosed a couple of photo's,

The first one shows a piece hydroboard (the french use this instead of plywood) which needs cutting to receive the yellow back box, to the left is what I would use to cut the plywood and on the right is what you say you would use.

The second shows the type of router I use to flush cut pipework to a floor or wall, the best router in the world (with limitations of course)

This is not a troll it is again banter and is just fun in my eye's

Regards

Peter

Of course, if you are cutting round holes, a hole saw will work much better than the multi-tool. By using that example, you are reinforcing everyone's point "the right tool for the right job".  Most electrical outlets or switch boxes in North America are rectangular and it would not be easy to cut them out using a hole saw (not impossible but not easy).  The multi-tool works much better.  When they first came out I thought they were a gimmick and unnecessary too, then I used one and now I own one and use it all the time for cuts that would be difficult , if not impossible, to do with any other tool.  I would love to get the Vecturo but can't justify spending that much when a cheap Porter Cable does what I need done.
We all are aware that Peter Parfitt's video is using a model but the examples he uses depict real life situations many, of which, I have encountered and was thankful for the multi-tool.
Do you own one?  If so, try using it more often. You might be surprised.

It is just that the quote box is missing.

I think hopper's post included an embedded quote from one of Pixel's posts.  I was confused at first, because the quoted part isn't in a shaded box, as it usually is.

Yes, I tried to quote pixel, but I didn't want all the quotes in the post so I deleted some of them and deleted too much, I guess.

Well....despite all the back and forth, my addiction "requires" that I own this tool! [eek]

I've had cheapo's like Bosch, Porter Cable, and others. Total crap for the most part.  Won't have a great deal of use of the Vecturo on a regular basis, but that holds true for 60% of my current Festools, so just adding to the "Lifelong Tools" when released. [tongue]  It'll be there when I DO need it.

This is a very serious addiction for which there does not appear to be a 10-step program! [scared]

Cheers,

Frank [big grin]

I'm a bit perplexed at certain posts. I'm an electrican by trade and so have absolutely no use for a Festool dry wall sander. But, I wouldn't post to a thread saying this tool is useless. It's a case of 'horses for courses'?

Personally I use a multi tool all the time. For me they are so very useful for notching out studwork and joists. Cutting holes for back boxes in plasterboard or ply. Cutting the tongues on flooring. I can also use a depth stop to avoid hitting unknown cables or pipes. They cut square/rectangular holes very well. Flush cutting is great, much better than trying to use a dremmel. Nobody working on a site would seriously bring a dremmel to use.

If I need to cut a round hole for a box or recessed light I use a hole cutter not a multi tool.

My only criticism is that there is no Festool battery Vecturo :(
