The new festool TXS drill has now popped up on the Axminster website in the UK. Sorry, don't know how to post a link.

It was already on the FOG last week, here is a picture of the TXS.
Unfortunately the batteries are not compatible with the C/T/DRC/PDC series of the current drills as I had hoped for.
The CXS is also available with new batteries now, also 2,6 Ah.

Very disappointed with this effort

No brushlessmotor and no electronic clutch

I dont use clutch on my drills (which are curently t18 and pro tool and festool pdc and panasonic impact) but having an electronic clutch would have made the drill shorter

I did not buy the cxs because in my opinion it was made cheaply using normal motor and clutch to get people onto festool, and thought it would be improved with an updated version.

The battery shape on cxs was poor and this one dont seen much better.

Probabily 80% of my tools are festool, but I defenitely won't be buying this.

Are the new CXS batts usable with previous models of CXS?

Or has the base been redesigned to share same batt profile as TXS?

I think the only reason festool have released this is to have a T handle 10.8v drill in its line up like every other manufacturer. I do prefer the T handle for bigger drills, never got on with the C type but I do also love my CXS, it's so small and light that it does not feel front heavy like the other C type drills. Would definitely go for CXS over this, it actually looks quit big for what it is but will reserve final judgement until I get to play with one.
I don't see why the new CXS batteries can't be used in older drill, guessing only difference is the bigger ah rating which will just give a longer run (and charge) time.

Unless I'm missing something with regard to the battery design, I see no way they can be interchangeable.  This based on above photo of the TXS battery, and knowing what my CXS battery looks like.  The CXS battery kinda looks like a lazy L, and slides up into the drill.  The TXS battery appears to be similar in design of the large T-18 or C-15 drills.

I don't mean to sound like a negative Nancy but this is a disappointment. The batteries aren't compatible with the CXS, it's still just a regular brushed drill and I think Festool could've impressed us more with a good cordless reciprocating saw/portable band saw.

How are you guys envisioning a T-handle drill to have compatible batteries w/ the CXS? [blink] Maybe like a kicker off the back w/ the battery hanging off?  [tongue]

There's a new CXS too that also has 2.6Ah batteries. Untidy Shop was asking whether the new CXS batteries would be compatible with the old CXS; I'd have to presume yes as they look physically the same, but can't find a definitive answer.

Well I like it that they've made a T model mini drill. I see myself buying this one a lot sooner than the CXS.

Would have prefered though if the battery was smaller, so it fit in the handle like you see with most of this type mini drills.

I think that Festool are right to put some effort into the smaller format drills and I am sure that others will keep themselves in this section of the market. For years there has been an arms race of bigger and bigger drills with bigger and bigger batteries. Well that is fine if you need the torque and power for long periods but there is a sizeable number of professionals (and I am sure amateurs as well) who do not want to grunt in 150 x 6 Spax all day but want a lightweight, easy to handle tool for 50 x 5 and below.

The current CXS has been a great success and I am sure the new machine (and the updated CXS mentioned above) will also be welcomed.

Hi
To clarify- the information on the two drill drivers is below

The CXS will have the following changes for 2015
2.6ah battery
Battery charge indicator
Max size for the 3 jaw chuck will now be 10mm

The new TXS is as follows
T Shape
2.6ah battery
Battery charge indicator
Max size for the 3 jaw chuck will now be 10mm

The new battery will fit the previous CXS but the 'stick' battery (1.5ah) will not fit the TXS. The charger has no changes and will take the new battery and the previous battery.
Any questions just ask

Phil

I should have mentioned that i had permission to confirm the details on the CXS/TXS as some information was already public knowledge.

With this new battery format I wonder if the TXS is the first step to a larger range of 10v tools for Festool.  I could see a mini impact, a small light and who knows what else...

Good Evening

I thought this was all hush hush until the new year? Oh well, shall I tell you all about the other stuff? ;-)

Happy Christmas Everybody

Judging by the discontinuation of the Ti15 and the electronic clutch on the T15/T18, it makes it sound like Festool doesn't believe in a loud working environment. :)

Also I'm guessing it isn't brushless since it would increase the diameter of the drill.

The main complaint of the Bosch/Milwaukee 12v tools is the diameter of the handle. I would be very surprised if Festool to picked up this style. There's not really much room to change the dimensions of the cells, unless they step down to 14500 cells, but you'd sacrifice runtime and max amperage in the process.

This is the only thing I asked for in the "I wish Festool made ..." thread. Can't wait to see these in the US.  FWIW I like the blocky battery pack, I want the drill to stand up, not lay down.

Well as you asked Peter.......

Wait a minute, there is someone at the door, and a big Mercedes parked outside? I'll be back in a minute.
