UJK has a new router jig for making dados but goes beyond that offering some additional features.

At first glance you'd say it's similar to the DadoMax or the DadoMaster jigs from a few years ago but it does more.

Years ago I needed a router dado jig and couldn't find one for sale anywhere so I built my own to keep the job going. It worked well enough and with my compact router I made all the dados I needed for the kitchen island I was building. That job was just simple dados many were stopped and could not be cut on the TS. They could be done with a edge guide and any router but making exact width dados I like to use an undersize bit and cut in two passes so I made this jig which uses the thickness of the workpiece to set the width of the dado for a perfect fit. I used a 1/2 bit with a 1" guide bushing IIRC.

To me it appears that the new UJK jig will have this capability too and more. I'd like to test this new jig when it's available here and compare it to the DadoMax and my home brew jig.

The jig looks very well made.  Would be very handy for milling systainer feet recesses into shelves and a lot more.  I typically use a track guided router for slots, however the two dimensional capabilities make this accessory look attractive.

Yes, being able to work in two dimensions adds a lot to the jig and is something I have not seen in previous jigs of this type.

A couple years ago after I had made my jig I found a DadoMax on eBay that a saved search alerted on. I made an offer and got it for next to nothing and didn't find it any better than the homebrew one I had made. It didn't add any capabilities beyond what mine had and it was not as easy to set the dado width. Mine uses the actual workpiece to set the width as shown in the second photo, no measurement required.

Been a while since I used mine, but doesn't the DadoMax have a set-up that uses a piece of the material being fitted and a couple of dowels? I'd have to go out and re-read the instructions to confirm.

Sorry, the DadoWiz (which is the one that I have) uses the dowels, here is the manual for the DadoMax showing use of the notches in the edge to set the dado width.

You are correct there are a number of variations for setting the width of the Dado.

I think mine is a little more direct and quicker to setup.

Nice looking setup. If I didnt already have a MicroFence setup and a Guide Rail Id definitely have considered going this route.

When is this going to be available in North America? Looks pretty slick and easy to set up.

You can order direct from Axminster so they are available now to US residents. I have ordered several things from them. Great service and low shipping costs.

AND, I have bought quite a bit of stuff directly from TSO... Thank you Hans for all that you do for us! If you can wait a little bit order from TSO. Their pricing is competitive and you are supporting American manufacturing.
